I rode into work today and about 25 minutes into the ride, I was at about 4k in 5th gear for 5-6 minutes when the engine light started flashing on and off for about 30 seconds. I was thinking right before then that it seemed as if my engine had stopped making power.

After that, it went off and i rode into work but i also ended up burning through almost a whole tank of gas in the ~50 mile trip as well.

Any Ideas?

Too hot?
Maybe your fan has stopped working.

Sounds like it got hot. The engine light will flash and the engine will start skipping ignition cycles when it gets hot enough. Is the fan working? Although 4K in 5th should provide plenty of air for cooling.

Mookie...that exact symptom happen to me when I found my fan was shot. It was blowing the fuse as well though. Have you checked the fuse?

my fan is working ok as far as i know. It definately sounds like cappuchino is being made for sure.

i just replaced the plugs a month ago when i stripped them and had to remove the heads and rehelicoil them. I dont think any of the previous stuff are the cause of this though.

Those are the overheating symptoms. Don't think it was hot enough around here to justify that.

So, you're looking at what caused that. How's your oil? Try a new fuse (they're hard to see), be sure about your fan.

Heat sensor may be failing and sending a bad signal.

Removing heads would mean moving the heat sensor. Check to make sure the wire is good. The manual does say to take care to make sure it is in a particular place.
