The magazine that comes with your AMA membership is a great read.

Lots of info on upcoming events... whats happening in politics that effect us riders...
profiles of motorcycle riders...places to go ride.....

My point is that the AMA is a HELL of a lot more than just a magazine.

We should ALL be members of the AMA. Most people have NO idea of the protection we have due to this great organization. Yes, it's not perfect. But isn't it nice to have a diligent organization watching your back regarding the right to ride.

I sure was glad when the AMA and motorcycle dealers assoc. fought the recent smog legislation here in CA. So far we are winning this battle....

$50/year is a SMALL price to pay for an AMA membership. POwer in numbers, guys.

They can kizz my azz. I have other specific directions for them, but this is a family forum.

I highly doubt AMA changing MX rules is what got the Buell dirt bike plans put on the shelf. Where did you get that information? I have read that the dirt bike and 1125 platform proved to be too challenging to take on at the same time, and the decision to stop the dirt bike development was based on that alone.

ABATE works on the State and Local levels. AMA works on the National level, though they do work with ABATE on the local level as well.

I think CityX is confusing AMA's elimination of Formula 1 with Buell's fortunes which have nothing to do with the dirt bike project. The dirt bike project was shelved due to resources being stretched too thin.

People have the dumbest reasons not to pursue their own best interests at times. If everyone who owned a motorcycle joined the AMA it would have UNBELIEVABLE political clout on our behalf.

Last I've heard, less than a quarter of the registered motorcyclists in the United States belong and that's SAD.

Abate dropped the ball big time here in regards to some BS motorcycle legislation here in florida, IMO they are worthless in this state...

Very sad by the time AMA got in involved it was too late..

But hey we can still ride with out a helmet...

I think it would benefit the industry and the riders if dealers included one year membership with the purchase of every bike. Some would not renew but some would but the membership would increase which would help with the hiring of attorneys and paying off the legislatures through campaign contributions.

Getting the word out is AMA's biggest problem.
I just dropped our AAA because AMA gives my family better roadside assistance included with my $39 membership in AMA that I was gonna buy anyway!

This is a GREAT deal, and the coverage is much better than basic AAA.
Basic AAA does not cover motorcycles, and has a lower towing limit.

AMA plan covers all vehicles in your family, not just motorcycles.

FYI, AMA also has trip routing services, IIRC, but I have never used it.

AMA is not an industry organization, BTW, but good relations with the industry is definitely smart.

As pointed out above, Erik is on the AMA board, so I think it's safe to say Buell is involved.

Please try to separate the mess of AMA Pro Racing from the higher purpose of AMA in representing motorcyclist interests in the US.
I don't much care for some recent AMA moves, but the higher purpose (and now value of roadside assistance) keeps me renewing even after I have left racing.

AMA is FINALLY doing what it SHOULD HAVE BEEN doing for years - lobbying on our behalf.

AAA used to be the auto racing organization that ran Indy, sprints, midgets, Pikes Peak and other racing. They FINALLY got out of the racing business thanks to USAC.

AAA today is actually a viable organization (heck even if I NEVER need them roadside, being able to NOT EVER AGAIN stand in line at the DMV is worth TWICE what I pay!)

AMA under Rob Dingman has been moving in the right direction. They're focusing primarily now on riding and rights, and letting other organizations handle the racing (professional racing; AMA still sanctions amateur events).

And for all those individuals who quit because they don't like the direction the AMA is heading: YOU are part of the problem! The AMA is run by its MEMBERS. If all of the members who disagree LEAVE, then that leaves only the members who want to drive the AMA in a specific direction.

It's the one BIG issue we try to drive home in our monthly District meetings... WE are the AMA. There is no "THEY." "THEY" are "US." If we don't provide feedback and criticism, then they'll simply assume they're moving in the right direction.

Every AMA District has two elected Congressmen who attend the annual meeting in Ohio in October. Our two Congressmen are CONSTANTLY soliciting input from the member clubs of the District. Several of our proposals have been accepted and put forward, but if we never made the proposal, it never would've happened.

There is strength in numbers. The more members who join, the more clout the AMA has in Washington and in local governments. Your choice.

They suck. Jon Flickinger interview reference 05/10/2007 Kneeslider

"I think that we were well enough along to know that we would have had a very competitive and great product. It was primarily external factors that drove the decision. -Particularly Noise, Emissions and racing regulations coming up in the near future. I think it is those external factors that played as much a role as any in the decision"

They did change the rules, they did kill the MX bike. I didnt really want an MX bike, but the money and R&D that went into that certainly would have yielded a great platform for me to Dual Sport or Super Moto.

I cancelled my member ship and sent them a scathing letter to boot. As well as any SPAM cart sort , I changed to their address and forwarded it properly.

Friggen whiney azz noodle minded beauracrats. (and that is the polite version of what I think)

Cutting off your nose to spite your face. There is far more to motorcycling than rules changes that may or may not affect a model that may or may not see the light of day.

I'm 100% certain the MX officials did NOT get together late one night under torchlight, rubbing their hands together while gleefully cackling: "This rule will screw Buell but GOOD!"

By the way, since Erik is on the Board of Directors, that idea is even MORE far fetched!!
