99 X1 - started sounding a bit strange last summer - dead battery in December - found negative battery cable loose in April - now I can't drop the hammer without it sounding like I have hit the rev limiter. I put my stock ECM back in the bike and it runs a little better but there is still a lose of power over 4000 rpm. I don't think the ECM was my problem. Not sure were to start??? |

You need to be a little more specific about the symptoms. Not sure what you exactly mean by dropping the hammer... |

sound's to me like a fouled plug. does it feel like it's running on one cylinder? do you get a lot of black smoke when you drop the hammer? (u do mean give full throttle, right?) May also look at your plug wires and make sure you have no arcing or have come loose. |

Sorry for being vague Starts great - sounds and runs great if turning the throttle slowly and will continue to do so throughout the full range of RPM to red line. If I crank the throttle over to rip past someone the problem occurs - sounds like the rev limiter - no smoke. I changed the plugs but not the wires yet. I need to make a cable and try out the ECM spy I downloaded a few weeks ago to get some better diagnostic info - by the way the ECMspy site is now closed. I will check the crank zero position today. Isn't "drop the hammer" a common phrase used when you floor anything that has a throttle?? Thanks for your response. |

Sounds like you experience your problem when you twist the throttle grip really fast as opposed to twisting it slow up to the redline. I don't know if this is common to all X1s but these bikes generally don't have a super crisp throttle response, like the Japanese in-line four bikes. At least that has been my experience. |

Yup, drop the hammer means go full throttle in a hurry. At least that is what gearheads like myself understand. |

Bummer Kalali - you must have been riding a sick pony - several occasion mine has almost left me were I twisted the throttle. Just changing the ECM to the race only added some punch. Still have no solution |
