Absolutely! And you need look no farther than right here on BadWeb where over a third of the threads seem to be about getting a louder exhaust, and "complaining" that the stocker is too quiet.

Piss off enough people and eventually the majority (non-riders) will get up and squash the minority (us) and we have no one to blame but ourselves.

My old boss used to put it thusly: "Pigs get fat, hogs get SLAUGHTERED." You can enjoy yourself at the public's expense up to a point, but when you push beyond a certain point... it's DINNER TIME.

Jaimec - in many people's defense, including my own, I do want a MILDLY louder muffler for my bike - something to give a little more throat to it, but not something that would piss anyone else off.

The problem is that pipe can't be bought. You either get stock, or really effing loud.

I've chosen to leave the stock pipe on for now.

When I had my Road King with Rineharts twisted up on top of the cam.... it would make your ears HURT.... I loved that bike but it pissed a few of my neighbors off.....

Its only a matter of time.

+1. Thats why I liked the Race Pipe on my old Uly, it wasn't loud, but it sounded great. Shame they discontinued it for the public and the damn mid range flat spot. I love my Micron, it looks great, sounds fantastic, and has a perfect power curve. It is a few db less than the Drummer it replaced, but it is still too loud in my opinion. Last night I got home at about 1am, and ended up shutting the bike off about half a mile from my house and coasted and pushed the rest of the way.

Unfortunately, the only aftermarket exhausts I'd consider would have to be ordered from Europe. There is a decent selection of aftermarket exhausts that meet Europe's noise regulations, but you pay DEARLY for them (especially factoring in the shipping and the exchange rate).

Too bad none of the American manufacturers bother to make EPA-complaint exhaust systems. I suppose it's a vicious cycle: The American manufacturers don't make compliant exhaust systems because they know no one would buy them, hence those of us who DO want replacement exhausts either look to the OEM, or Europe.

I wouldn't replace my exhaust for sound, though. I'd replace it for something made of STAINLESS STEEL.

Amen to that Froggy! I will have my stock exhaust Jet heated when winter comes cause of the rust it has accumulated in just a year! I'm not into the bling-bling-pretty-bike thing but rust sucks!

Have to agree with you folks-loved the sound of my race muffler, but it's starting to rust. Love the sound and look of my Drummer SS, but man after a couple of hours in the saddle (with earplugs) it's a bit too loud and starts to wear on you. IMHO anyway. A muffler like the Flowmaster I had on my Firebird would be cool-sounded sweet when you're on it, but mellow when cruising.

i believe OPS pipe is louder then most.. ive heard all of them. I live in a Cul-de-sac and leave for work at 430am. My OPS pipe is my neighbors alarm clock because it wakes him up everytime... The other ones..... screw um.. they wake me up at 8am on the weekends with there damn lawn mowers.. whats the difference

so wheres the back lash against Minivans, SUVs and long a$$ pick up trucks? EVERY time I see an accident, it involves at least one of those.
There are bigger fish to fry. If they are so all fired up about trype, lets have manditory endorsement requirements and skills test for those vehicles, cant pass the test? YOU DONT GET TO DRIVE. I know I would feel safer. Get these yahoos off the road in droves... and guess what? nobody is there to complain about my pipe.

I would really like to see a national study like the one done for motorcycles that points to the dangers of these vehicles and imposes outlandish standards based on that data.

Jamie: I worked for my old boss LONG before I'd even heard of Jim Cramer. Back in the mid-80's!

It's possible my old boss knew him. I was in the financial sector (IT division) at the time.
