hey guys i just thought i would show what i've been up too. last year i wired my helmet with earbud headphones... that didnt work so well. so now i been working on building a stereo for my 1125R. here are some pictures. its not quite finished and after testing i may need 2 more speakers but its hard to tell because right now its running on only three due to my girl's nephew took his finger to one of the cones...  . well, with 3 i can hear it fine with my helmet on up to about 40-45mph so i think i need 2 more speakers for the freeway. but i have to wait a few weeks for the new speakers to come in from taiwan. let me know what you guys think!

wire the lid with the J&M headset go straight into a music device of choice with head phone out. i had to make the connector to go between 1/8" mini and the old school p/s2 style job on the end of the cable. well worth the $$ and time much easier to deal with and doesn't look bad | ||||||

Well that's a new one, haha. I like it - I prefer headphones because if you get the earplug style, you get lots more bass response and close out the wind noise, but I know some guys just really like speakers. Very good install job. | ||||||

In order to get any sort of sound out of it, you'll need bigger drivers, a pretty stout amp, and most of all....use marine grade stuff so it will be water proof. Even the stereo on a Goldwing can't be heard at interstate speeds with any fidelity. You might want to try a set of these. Nice little set up BTW, not bad for cruising around but lacks a little something for touring. I went with an MP3 player in the Zumo and Sat Radio amplified via AmpliRider through a Starcom headset. It will rock at well OVER triple digits! I just used what I had on-hand and let the nature of a full face helmet guide my acoustics. Later Neil S. | ||||||

I have speakers in four of my helmets, ear buds always fall out. If you get a good set of speakers and mount them the right way in your helmet its like wearing a good set of headphones. To drive my speakers I have have SiriusXM Satellite Radio. The radio I use is a Stiletto 2 so I can listen to live radio, recored content or mp3's. | ||||||

this is my set-up on my 1125r Radio on left is a Sirius Stiletto 2, a Sirius Starmate in the middle. Check out the two Satellite Antennas on the left and right of the Starmate under the windshield. OK, Why two Sirius Radios, Sometimes I want to go on a short ride and the Stiletto is in the home dock recording. Can't be without music! Also the radio under the windshield does good in the rain. Alright, good going with four speakers. I've been kinda spoiled having ridden several thousand miles with a factory stock FXRT and its 40W per channel stereo system with two 4" speakers facing me, blasting out my favorite tunes. So I was looking at the 1125R fairing with the backside of its huge headlight reflector assemblies facing me and was thinking, "I could put some 40W 4" speakers in there." So, the seed of an idea is planted, and your rather elaborate installation has given me validation in the concept of an 1125 stereo system for the road. Thanks! | ||||||

I have speakers in four of my helmets, ear buds always fall out. If you get a good set of speakers and mount them the right way in your helmet its like wearing a good set of headphones. You can't just use earbuds - you have to get the "noise isolation" style headphone, or whatever they are - basically an earplug with a headphone speaker built in. I have a $12 set from Wal-Mart and they work great. You'll get far better sound out of that kind of setup than ANY speaker that doesn't seal around the ear, whether it's in the helmet or not. I've tried fairing speakers, helmet speakers, ear buds and noise isolation headphones, and the noise isolation route is the best by far for comfort and sound quality. | ||||||

You guys would be amazed at how much sound these little guys actually put out!! my buddies jaw hit the floor! ya, it didnt even dawn on me that i could have mounted my small speakers in my helmet... one of the reasons i wanted external speakers is so that i can still here whats going on around me... avoid accidents and such. also, the mp3 player i am using also has an fm tuner so i can listen to the radio. I also fabbed up a 22watt by 2 channel amplifier that i mounted inside the enclosure. after the 2 days of testing, ive come to find that 2 more speakers would do the trick for the amount of sound output but i will have to run my own wiring for the 12volt source for the amplifier because aparently the accessory power isnt clean in the mid to upper rpms. also, i have a variable voltage regulator turning down the voltage from 12 to 1.5 so that i dont have to use batteries in the mp3 player. also i originally thought of this idea so i could use an Iphone as the player, but i dont have one. lol hey sparky, i was also contemplating placing speaker "pods" on the back sides of the headlights as well but i thought if i kept it neat and compact it will work as a home ipod docking station as well with very little modification. It is easily removed from the bike as its only strapped in with velcro straps. i was actually going to see if anyone was interested in one once i get all the quirks taken care of. well, thanks for all the comments guys!!! | ||||||
