So I figured I would set the suspension to my fat-self today according to the manual...when I popped the seat off I found a random sensor with nothing going to it. Is this normal? The sensor is at the front of the seat area at the base of the air box cover. There is a wire connected to it and the end of the sensor has a green "o" ring on it. There is also a random connector with 2 wires and nothing plugged into it (unrelated it seems). What did I stumble on? ac | ||

It's your Baro sensor. It and the MAP sensor tell the ECM how much air is moving into the motor. It clips into its holder at the base of the inner airbox. The tube with the o-ring points down. Is there one pin showing on the connector? Sounds like the Battery Tender harness. Zack (Message edited by zac4mac on June 22, 2009) | ||

I was kind of confused by this sensor when I had my bike torn apart a couple weeks ago. I kept looking for a hose or opening that little nipple was supposed to go into. I dont understand why that green o-ring is on there if it doesnt go into anything. | ||

I bought the bike use...it has been de-noided. I assume that is what the other connector is for? Nice to know the other sensor is nothing to worry about! ac | ||

The Baro sensor is an "off the shelf" Bosch part that in another life DOES plug into something. Here it doesn't go anywhere. Z | ||

Honestly I thought it might be open to the atmosphere by design, but the green "o" ring really had me confused! ac | ||

When these bikes are tinkered with owners and techs sometimes put the Barometric pressure sensor back into the air box clip the wrong way. Make sure the nipple is not pointing up because the sensor will fill with water and cause drivability problems. | ||

It's suck sensor. If you don't ride well it reports back to Central Control and they send you a recall notice. When you take the bike in for the warranty repair they tell you that you have to take a riding course and read "Twist Of The Wrist" to get it back. The suck sensor can be circumvented by disconnecting the bank angle sensor and inserting a resistor plug. I don't remember the part number off hand. |
