today i was riding and i past another blast, and i also heared it, the sound his bike was making, is what a blast is supposed to sound like, mine has been slowly getting worse and worse, it makes a strange knocking noise which is especially noticable when idoling and in first, a few people have mentioned that it is sounding weird, i was woundering what could cause that. also steve the guy who helped me put it back together thought the valves needed to be adjusted...so any ideas.

The stock valves are hydraulic and need no adjustment. If you are using too light an oil it might be too thin to keep pumped up when it is hot out, you are using 20w-50 right?

The noise if coming from the primary side may be a loose crank shaft sprocket nut.

Yes, the most common cause is too loose a primary chain. Does it still have the spacer?

im using the right oil, but no there hasn't been any adjustment to the primary chain. and i dont know how to tell if it still has a spacer.

See the TKV Primary section - there are several different acceptable ways to adjust the primary, the book method is the worst since it leaves your primary too tight. If you did do it by the book, then I would go out 8 to 12 flats instead of the 3.5 they recommend.

Follow the trail of info.
Remember 24 INCH lbs Thats like 2 ft lbs! Very, very, light torque. Try it on another bolt first to see how little pressure that is. Over tightening can severely damage the shoe.

ok im pretty sure who ever had the bike before me over tightened because once i loosened the jam nut the screw moved very very easily, and the reason the book was confusing me was because on my engine the screw was already 90% of the way screwed in and looked much different from the picture. i think that i may have woren most or all the way through the shoe because it is still making that noise and we screwed it in even more, with no resistance like you would expect to find when the shoe meets the chain.

The screw should move easily once the jam nut is loose. It's a turn and a half away from being just slightly tight, so it should turn freely.
