I don't know if any cares about Ducati's or any other bike for that matter but I have been looking at used one's for about a year now. I've noticed that the 999's sale for more money than the newer 1098's. Also the 848's sale for more than the 1098's. Is it because of a quality issue with the newer bike's. Every video I have seen on the 1098's would make them sound superior to the older bike's. I'm not looking to buy one right now because I'm in love with my Firebolt still and don't need another bike. I do want one in the future, one day sort of thing. |

Where are you getting your prices from? While an excellent motorcycle, the 999 is the black sheep of the Ducati world, and may likely turn out to be the least valuable model in modern Ducatis. And an 848 is just a 1098 with a smaller engine (aside from S models and the like). I would prefer an 848, but would pay for a 1098. The prices confuse me. And if what you're saying is true, the 1098 is the no-brainer choice. |

wasn't the 999 the only one of the more recent ducs superbikes to not use a one sided swing arm |

The 999 was not very popular, and thus sells in most markets for much less than the 1098, Personally I like the the way the 999 looks, but many do not, and from what I have read, it is a bit easier to handle on the street. The 1098 is said to be faster, but more demanding. Bottom line, for use as the street bike, I feel that the 999 is better looking, easier to ride, and a much better value. I have read here and there that people are selling their 1098's to buy 999's but a study of the eBay market, which I have been following closely lately, does not appear to validate that point of view. Your mileage may differ. |

IMO the 999 looks good above and aft of the trellis frame. Everything below and forward of that looks like poop - especially the two vertical headlights. The 1098/848 on the other hand.. wOw.

Ducati has more flavors of these bikes than you can count.. I could see how a smaller displacement bike out fitted with better suspension or trim could be more expensive. Take mileage into consideration as well.. |

White, A faster, more accurate way to gauge the actual market for bikes is to check completed listings on eBay. You have listed asking prices which tend to be unrealistic. You will see that the actual selling prices are much lower, especially for 999s. For example, a friend of mine just bought a 2003 999S, with 7k miles for $7500. |

+! Craigslist asking prices are a joke! On of my favorites for Nashville's craigslist went something like this: "I got a 08 Ninja 650 with 8k miles, only dropped once, runs great. $8,000 firm." I would wait a while for the 1198 to hit the streets and devalue the 1098. That is where I would image the value would be, a used 1098 this winter. For me I'm going the hunt for a deal on a 1198S. Unless buell punches out the 1125r. |

Craigslist asking prices are a joke! Than why aren't the 1098's inflated? Another thing I just looked up was that the 999's MSRP is almost double that of the current 1098's. weired? |

the 999 was a more expensive motorcycle, but not double. The 999r was double sure, but it was top o the line track back. |

My bad I was looking at the R model. The base 999's were more expensive than the 1098's. |

while trying to test your claims I ran across this: If you are looking for a nice sporty Italian v-twin this looks like a good deal for 5500 asking. http://nashville.craigslist.org/mcy/1191375357.htm l |

Wow! I'm a sucker for yellow. Hoping that the CR comes in white and yellow for 2010. Yellow with nuclear blue wheels. |

I have spent saddle time on Ducatis and the 1125R. I'd buy the 1125. |

Danger-dave: Don't get me wrong I love Buell's. I'm going to keep my Firebolt. I'm not really in the position to buy a new bike right now. Maybe in a year. I just though it was strange that the used prices were so close to each other. Barker: I looked at an Aprilia about two months ago. It was a 2006 and was very nice. They do look old to me (like a 1999 R1). The thing is I think they are over priced comparing it to the 1125R. |

Sure - meant from a bang for the buck angle. No second hand 1125s yet? - there have been a few down here for economic reasons. |

Okay, so a 999 being close in price to a 1098 seems reasonable because it was a more expensive bike to start with. But, looking at what you've shown, I'd buy an 848 for the same money as a 999 and happy as a pig in shite. However, if what you really want is a 999, then nothing else will do. Don't buy a spec sheet or an asking price - buy the one that tugs on your soul. |

The 848 is the perfect bike for street use. Amazing machine. I know a couple of guys with 1098's that say they'd like the 848. Sorta like the XB12 guys saying they want the 9's. I rode the 848 last spring and was awed as to how balanced and light this bike feels. I too would go 848. |
