Whats a good method to determine if I have an intake leak? I know back in the days for cars you could spray around the intake and If you had a leak your engine would rev higher. Whats a good method on the Buell? | ||

same method works for buells. I believe most people use propane. | ||

I have heard WD40 is good too, going to try it on mine soon, I think I got a slight leak and want to check it it out. | ||

light up a cigarette and the smoke will be sucked in. it's less explosive, cheaper and easier to come by than propane. but it'll give u cancer, and kill u later, more slowly, in a less cool way... | ||

I need to do this as well. in a less cool way... Isn't that the whole reason us smokers started? It was cool?  I'm gonna check mine tomorrow. That's something I can do with one arm. | ||

just saying that lung cancer is a less cool way to die than in a huge firey explosion of one's garage. everyone knows that smoking is an automatic +10. you allready gots a bike, so that's like +10 cool points. an additional 5 if you have a leather jacket. a huge firey explosion is like +80, but only if you do the 'running....boom! then immediatey dive' thing. now if you can wheelie out of the explosion with flames licking your cow-hide jacket and lighting your cigarette, that's like atleast a million or 3 oh, and -2 if your bike has a intake leak. +3 if you know about it but are apathetic  | ||

it'll suck in cigarette smoke through the leak. DUH!  but seriously, it'll run lean cuz the computer can't account for the air that is being sucked in.... or will it 'learn'? | ||

Don't use starting fluid, or carb cleaner, or any other degreasing agentt to check for leaky seals. Propane gas is best. Why no degreasers? With the V engine, as it heats, the cylinders grow taller and move away from each other. Those seals are meant to slide on their surfaces as this happens. It is best to assemble them with SylGlide on smooth manifold surfaces (polishing them a bit doesn't hurt either) to facilitate this movement. If you spray degreasing agents to check for leaks, you strip away the sylglide, and you potentially attack the seals and cause them to become gummy. This is the opposite of what you want. A butane plumbing torch works fine. Al | ||

Great tip Al thanks. I checked mine today as well with propane and didnt hear anything. I took the time to check the plugs and they looked ok. Iam assuming they were original(autolite XS). I did find an exhaust leak where the header goes into the muffler and re tightened the clamp. Also the nut on top of the plug that the plug wire snaps onto was loose so I tightened them both up. Plugs were only one hand snug. The ride home from work seemed less rough on initial startup but it could all be psychological I guess. I think I should invest in the some NGK plugs nevertheless. | ||

in the manual it states to use propane. I would go with what it recommends... | ||
