Last weekend I finally got to use my new Torque Hammer with the proper race map from Dris (EasyRider). My problem before was that I was out of town for 4 months. So last weekend was my first time on my home track in more than 5 months. It was a race weekend so Saturday was a trackday and Sunday was a race day. After two warm up sessions on Saturday morning I noticed that even though I was getting on throttle a little later coming out of turns, and get off the throttle a little early going into turns, I was reaching my normal top speeds in a lot less distance. The bike is definitely making more horsepower. The increased pull coming out of corners is quite noticeable. Unfortunately while following a street rider in the first lap of the 3rd session I had to hit my brakes hard unexpectedly in a turn. We were well past the apex of the turn and there was no reason for the rider to veer that hard right, when he should have been on throttle going left. Sure enough my front wheel locked and I went on my head. I broke my right collar bone and 5th rib. Somewhere between the track and ER the rib caused a tension pneumothorax which was not caught until CAT scans were taken. The ER doc declared a "life threatening emergency" and proceed to insert a chest tube with only a small amount of local. No morphine or antibiotic. Now there's a life experience for you. I got to spend two days in a hospital before the tube came out and I was released. The collar bone will not be fixed. Tuesday I drove my dually and fifthwheel 280 miles home. It was okay except for shifting the manual trans into 4th and 6th. I had to use my left arm for that (just like when I was a kid driving trucks with brownies). Yesterday, Wednesday I had my annual physical. Sounds like I will be back on track in about 6 weeks or so. This is all unfortunate but at least I'm at home so I can get some things done on the bike before I get back to the track and start enjoying my new found horsepower and torque again. | ||

OuCH! Glad you are going to be ok. Broken ribs can be bad or worst! Good luck on your recovery and your new horse power! | ||

Good to hear that you are out and about. Even with the pain, you are real lucky. I keep getting told that it's safer on the track versus the street but, there are dumba$$'s on the track too. BTW, how did the 1125 hold up? Later Neil S. | ||

Small damage to the front fairing. But I replaced the stock one with fiberglass when I first put the bike on the track. Easy repair. The right handle bar and foot peg need replacing. ~$50.00. A scrape on the rear finder that will be another easy glass fill and block sand fix. The right FlexiGlass panel I got from Grand Stand Designs got a good scrape right at the clutch cover. The cover received no damage because of the fairing. I've repaired this fairing in the same spot before, and when I do I put an extra layer of glass cloth on it. Maybe it's a good thing the finish paint isn't on the bike yet. Primer's easy to touch up. | ||

Broke my collar bone 6 months ago also locking up the front brake. That happened in Juarez, don't ask. | ||

Luis, I was initially in the ER at Demming, NM and was then transferred to the trauma 1 center Thomason in El Paso, your home town. Why don't you come over to Arroyo Seco for a trackday? It's less than an hour and half. I'm one of two Buells there, and the only racer. The other Buell is some ridiculous XB punched out to almost 1500. I can still easily smoke that thing on the straight like it was a stock 600. But it sure is a beautiful. There's at least 1 track day a month year round. We're on summer race break now and the next race is Sept. It would be good to see another friendly face out there even if you just come to watch and hang out in the toyhauler (think AC). | ||

Thanks for all the kind thoughts and comments. George I'm real sorry to hear about your continuing incapacity. Is your FX a complete FX? Mine is and I think it makes a difference. I had almost full range of motion the next day. I know its a complete FX because I saw the xrays and I've been reading images for almost 30 years. I hope you get use of the arm back soon! My problem is mostly weakness, pain from the rib FX, and healing of the tube wound. Makes sleep uncomfortable and I can't get anything done! Thankfully I'm unemployed and have the best sponsor (wife) in the world. | ||

Ha ha that's where they took me to get "fixed". Great trauma center! I didn't know Arroyo Seco was tat close to me. I'll sure try to go next track day. I don't have a trailer so I would have to ride it. I have never been on a track day (or a track for that matter) But it would be cool to be able to use my bike like is supposed to and not break the law hehe.
