ok so I am wanting to put xb forks, brakes and wheels on my m2. my question concerns the master cylinder for the front brake. Do I need to get one off of a xb? or are they the same? or does it matter?

also any details on what it takes for the back wheel would be very useful as well.

Joesbuell did the swingarm too, talk to al at american sport bike, he supposedly has the spacers to run the rear wheel.

I've got a brand new set of those spacers that I bought with the same intent, but went a different way with the project. Shoot me a message if you're interested.

How is the rear shock mounted with the XB swingarm? I've always pondered doing this on the S3T but the rear is what really intimidates me.

It involves a lot of fabrication...

Youll have to mill up spacers for the swingarm, weld the frame to accept the shock and figure out the geometery for that, youll have to make a new battery tray to relocate it to the x1 position.

there is a post somewhere in the archives of joesbuell's bike from start to finish. If I remember correctly it was originally a s3 not a s1 but now looks like a cross between a s1 and a xb

Ive heard that the tuber one is fine and others say you need to have one milled up.

Get you forks complete with the triple clamps since the XB forks are tapered; S/TT/X/XT top clamp for tubular bars and R top for clip-on style low bars.

Chad, the XB rear shock mounts in a conventional manner to the top of the swingarm.

I briefly used a set of the Tuber triples for the inverted forks. I don't think I had to modify anything to get them to work. You just can't mix/match one tuber triple with an XB triple, as they will not align.

These were the earlier XB forks though. Not sure if that would make a difference as far as the triples required.

I just shortened the XB stem by 10mm, I made a dowel out of steel and the drilled some holes in the two pieces of the shortened stem. I them mounted the whole setup in the lathe and proceded to TIG weld it all back together and filling the holes with weld for extra strenght. From my experience during the build the tuber triples did not work because of the tapered sections on the XB fork legs.

This setup has been in service for 19000klm's know with out fault ; )

I don't think I ever took any pictures of the process but heres links to the build, Got get a cup of coffee and some Cookies as this will take a while to go through : )

I read somewhere where the 2003 forks will work with no modifications. I'm not sure but I think that's what I read. BR.

I have 2003 forks so does that mean they would fit in x1 triples?

the 2004+ fork tubes are larger, the 2003 XB fork tubes are the same diameter as the 99-02 tuber fork tubes... IIRC. i was looking to do the same swap... I got all the stuff except the 03 XB fork tubes. : (

Actually the '04-up XB forks are narrower at the trees (they're tapered). The '03 Forks will bolt up. If you use the XB trees, you can use the stem from the tuber trees or an '86-'03 Sportster stem.

The tube frame lower triple clamp is flat and will not work with the XB forks even though they are the same diameter. The XB fork lowers are kind of in a U shape if you no what I mean. The gap between the top XB triple and the lower triple is greater to fit where the tapered sections are on the XB forks. Because the Tuber lower triple is flat the mounting section of the XB forks will not align.

Trust me I tried!

I hope that makes sense!

What I have done twice both on rice burners. I press out or cut out the stem from the doner tripple and oem tripple. Then press it into the new donor tripple. And make any modifications that need to be made if any. In one of the cases I had to make a bushing to make the lower dia of the stem larger.

Its very difficult to press out the stem. Took a 15K pound press. Easier to destroy the lower tripple on the oem tripple cutting it to get the stem out without damage, and on the new tripple use a recipricating saw and file set to cut the inside of the stem.

Another thing too is that the XB's triples offset reduces steering lock alot!

It only affects U turns!

another reason that i would try NOT to use the Xb triples... even though it only effects such a small thing.

Trust me the tuber triples wont work! not unless you use an extra long stem with spacers...And that would look like crap!

I looked at the this during my build.

Try it if you want ; )
