i want to lower the bars on my ully, has anyone tried rotating the stock bars back to achieve this? how much does it mess with the riding position/comfort, i want a more aggressive position but i am not sure about having my hand further back? can i even lower them significantly before hitting the air box? i also wanted to double check that if i put lightening bars on my ully the clutch and break lines will not need modification. i look though the knowledge vault and i think i am safe. has anyone done this recently, are there any hints or things to watch out for? finally, what is the best way to get the heated grips off? | ||

I haven't tried rotating the bars to lower them, so I can't say for sure that it would work. Just eyeballing it, it doesn't look like they would be all that much lower and your control of the bike might be compromised. I put the low-rise bars on from American Sport Bike. They work without modifying cables, but it is close. I ended up getting shorter cables after a few weeks. The Ultra low-rise bars will definitely need modification of the cables. I like the forward lean of the low-rise bars as apposed to the stock ones. I haven't had to remove heated grips, but as with regular grips, if they are glued on, you may need to cut them off. | ||

Play loosen the 4 bolts holding the handlebar on, you can rotate the bar a few inches no problem. If that doesn't work for you, you can switch to the lightning bars. The cables a much shorter, so your best bet would be new cables. You might be able to get away with the long cables if you reroute them a bit. The heated grips come on and off with no issue. You might need to drill holes in your new bars to accommodate the grips. | ||

I marked the bars and housing and was able to rotate the bars just over an 1/8" from the original mark, I don't know what angle of change that is but its small, before the bars would hit the air cover. The ride position is much better for me and the clutch line is no longer in front of the instruments. I didn't think the 1/8" turn would make that much of a difference but it was very noticeable. I don't know if the bars are low enough yet but i like the change, I am going to ride with it like this for a while. I just need to figure out if i want to readjust the clutch lever and mirrors back to their normal position | ||

Whatever floats your boat  The clutch and mirror perches are easy to adjust, there is that one bolt in the front on the lower side of the bar you just loosen then adjust as needed. | ||

I always place the bars forward on my "dirt bikes". I rotated the Uly bars forward to get a little more lean. I feel I have better control of the bike with the bars forward. | ||

When I first Got my Uly, I felt like I wanted lower bars, and I'm still not 100% sure that I don't want lower bars, but rotating the bars forward an inch or so, made me feel more comfortable. | ||

Personal comfort is what it is all about. I rolled my bars back to where when turned to full lock they are within 3/8" of the air box cover. I am old and feeble so I like to sit more up right. I guess my arms are not real long as it worked out to a well relaxed, neutral feel for me. If I was to do a bunch of dirt riding where standing up would be the call, I would roll them forward. I just don't go there much. Having them rolled back also allows me to utilize more of the seat for long distance rides. I can scoot all of the way back to the pillon and let my legs dangle in front of the bags to relax my rusted knees. |
