Hi, new here

I bought an 09 XB12X on friday, put about 500 miles on it over the weekend. Ran good initially, or just did not notice any problems, but now it stumbles from start and surges between 2-3k rpms, kind of sucks when you are just tooling around on a new bike. Once you rev it up over 3k it runs better, but as I am breaking the motor in per the book, have not taken it over 5k yet.

I dont really want to spend money to tune a stock bike that I intended to keep stock, and from what I have read here, this bike has an adaptive ECU similar to that which is in a car. Gone down that road before, ECU will correct whatever change you make to the fuel map.

The bike seems to need a richer pilot and needle circuit (if it had a carb). I bought a FI bike so I would not have to deal with this anymore. No choke it kind of nice.

Does it run better with mileage? Or, is it an inherent problem? I want to just leave the bike stock, but if this is how it is going to run something needs to change.

Love the bike, but the running issue, as well as the heat issue need to be resolved. Also, fan seems to run constantly, even when the ambient temps are below 70F. Would understand fan kicking on in traffic, but it seems to run constantly once the bike warms up, even at normal freeway speeds (65-75 mph) when cooling should not be an issue.

Input would be appreciated, hopefully is resolvable problems, but kind of irritating to find issues in common with others.

08 XB12XT

I have always had to bring mine up off idle before launching it. It works a lot better since the latest ecm flash at the dealer. It even settled the surging at 2 to 3k. Don't spend money, that's why you bought new and have a warranty. Look here to see what I did for heat->http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/468965.html?1245219176
Ask your dealer if it has the latest flash. Fan running is a good thing.
You can use the search function to find other solutions to the heat question.

The fan will not run as much after it is broke in.These motors like life above 3k rpm's.

Take it to your dealer and tell them the problems you are having.Do not mention you read this or that on the internet. They will upload any program updates and manually reset the tps. This will more than likely solve your issues.

Cooling is even more of an issue at highway speeds. Not as much air gets to the rear cylinder as you think.

That doesn't sound normal to me. I'd take it back in to the dealership. Could be the idle air control valve or an air leak at the throttle body.

I would take it back to the dealer and verify that it has the latest flash. As far as the fan is concerned, it will run less once the bike is broken in a bit. At 6500 miles, my 07's fan usually only turns on when I turn the bike off now. And will actually turn off once I'm off the highway and putting around in the city (on longer rides). I hear the 08+ models run the fan even less.

Could be as simple as a fouled plug. Even the new ones are subject, coming from a dealership. Several cold starts and revving to show people how it sounds, has left many Ulys running like crap from new. The hi tech plug de-fouler can only do so much.

welcome to the 08, 09 club...many of the 08s have issues, especially the earlier build dates and some of the 09s...

customer service will tell you they never heard of anyone else with a problem...do the search and you will be reading for a while...
