I have been chasing a bad vibration in my bike for some time now. I planned to open up the primary tonight and retorque the engine sprocket nut to the new torque spec hoping to cure my problem, but I never made it that far. The picture in the service manual shows plenty of space to remove all the primary cover bolts, but one of mine is blocked. Does this indicate a problem with the rear isolator? Is there some other problem which is causing this and could also be the root cause of the vibration? The rear most bolt on the primary is behind the support for the left footpeg and I can't remove it without first taking off the footpeg. I'm including a picture, if anyone else has had something like this happen or knows what this means please let me know. -Patrick |

My '08TT has about 1/8-3/16in clearance, FWIW. An eyeball calibration, by the way. Rear mount could be the issue. I would expect some handling issues if it is failing. |

Took some measurements this morning. Left side: 10 1/2in from the center of the shift shaft to the center of the top of the footpeg pivot pin. Right side: 11 3/16in from the center of the top of the footpeg pivot pin to the center of the antirotation bolt to the rear cyl exhaust lifter. Hope this makes sense and helps, Dave |

Thanks for those measurements, I'll check mine tonight so I can get a good comparison. The only thing I don't know about is what the "center of the antirotation bolt to the rear cyl exhaust lifter" is. I'm thinking it's the rearmost of the 2 silver bolts just beneath the plastic pushrod cover on the rear cylinder? I'm going to spend this evening checking on quite a few things to see if I can solve this issue. -Patrick |

That's the bolt! And IIRC, it helps to think of an XB as 2 big sub-assemblies. One sub-assembly is the engine-swing arm, the other is the frame-front end. I suspect you have an issue with the rear isolator assy, p/n L0502.02AB, or the long bolt (screw in the parts book) that goes through the center. |

And don't forget to carefully examine the front motor mount, looking for cracks, a break, or broken or missing mounting bolts. |

After checking measurements it looks like the whole engine has shifted rearward ~1/8". I'm assuming you meant 12-3/16 on the right side otherwise something is seriously amiss. All the tie bars are bolted down tight and the front motor mount looks great so I guess I'll go ahead and order a new rear mount and tear into it and see if that solves my problem. Thanks everyone for your help, I'll be sure to let everyone know if that fixes it. -Patrick |
