Sold the 1125R yesterday and test rode the XT. I really, really like this bike. A couple of questions gentlemen: 1. Insurance rates? I was paying 600/yr for full coverage. 2. Fuel mileage? 3. Anything else I need to know? I was really impressed with the motor. I believe that Buell has perfected the performance of this power plant. I DID NOT care for the heat on my right thigh but know that it can be remedied. Thanks in advance for your responses. Time to fly, Frank |

Let your fingers do the walking. I'm paying the nearly same for my 08XT as I am for my 01 Suzuki Katana 600. This should cover most everything else. |

I have zero to do with this one, but the price is right. Heck, that's less than what I just paid to finish paying off my '07 Uly. http://austin.craigslist.org/mcy/1198420676.html Wayne |

Yesterday I did 100 miles fuel stop to fuel stop, 2 gallons, that equals, 50 MPG. That was back roads, 60-70 MPH two up with all three bags loaded. Insurance is $520 a year(Michigan, there is a $100 FU Fee) 51, no tickets full coverage on a salvage titled bike. |

08XT last week three tanks: 75 mph = 49 mpg, 80 mph = 48 mpg, 72 mph with head wind = 47 mpg. The headwind was strong, bike has 5k miles on it. I pay 168 a yr. full cov. Do some shopping. Storage in a locked building helps with the rates. |

1. Ins. rate, I pay about $375 full boat coverage in NY(rural Upstate), Progressive 2. Fuel Mileage; I'm getting 45ish mpg, but has been going up after last ECM reflash and muffler actuator replacement. Check out member 08Uly's site; (thanks again for the great reference) http://www.njdot.us/buell/ulydata.php 3. The MOST FUN you can have on two wheels!! IMHO. |

MPG range on my 09 XT is 45 -54. A lot of up hill and wind around here. Insurance is a killer for me. No tix/accidents in the past 25 years. 800 credit rating. Bike free & clear. Best I could do was $860 for full coverage. Quotes I got ran as high as $2k (Progressive). Got it through AARP. Problem appears that being 64 and riding a Uly is a risk for them. |

The problem is that the Uly will get your heart racing and then you will experience a premature expiration |

Pay state minimums if you can which is liability here in NE. I don't think I pay more than 75 bucks a year. I'll take my chances and not make the insurance companies rich off my biking habit. I understand if you have a loan and they require it. That's why it pays to pay cash. If you have a high deductible and very high premiums then you are really nuts because you'll never collect on the insurance unless you demolish the bike. If you aren't required to have full coverage then why carry it??? If you make claims they just increase your premiums, they always have ways of getting it back out of you. Like Vegas, the house has the odds. Just remember that your bike depreciates faster than those premiums ever will. |

I can afford the insurance. Can't afford to buy a new Uly if this one gets stolen or totaled. Not too worried about my heart. It's those pesky brown stains in the shorts I get every once in a while riding the thing. It's a tad quicker than my Road King was and I seem to be losing control of my right wrist. |

Pay state minimums if you can which is liability here in NE. I don't think I pay more than 75 bucks a year. I'll take my chances and not make the insurance companies rich off my biking habit. I have been reluctant to post this story here since it has nothing to do with Buells, but let me toss out the other side of this. Three weeks ago, I was riding my new BMW R1200RT. I bought it in December and it had right at 6,000 miles on it (4,000 from a road trip to the northeast and back). I was out riding with a group of BMW riders and the weather turned iffy on us. There was a 20% chance of rain, and we saw a few sprinkles, but nothing more. We had lunch about 60 miles outside of town and everybody decided to head their own way home. I went the most direct route and on my way, found myself in some rain. Not heavy rain, but rain none the less. I'm on a straight road and going 65 in a 70 MPH zone. Next thing you know, I feel the whole front end whip out from under me and I'm down on the asphalt. I let go of the bike, and it does a couple of flips from side to side before coming to a halt. Both of us ended up in the on-coming traffic lanes. Fortunately all the traffic had time to stop before running us over. My gear saved me from serious injury and I get up and move the RT to the side of the road with the help of another motorist. Another rider I was with before lunch comes by, sees me and stops. I'm telling him what happened when all of a sudden another cyclist hit the same spot I did and goes down (all of this on a straight non-curved road!). Both bikes were worth more than 15K (mine closer to 20K). The difference? I had full coverage, the other rider only liability. Both bikes are in bad shape (although the RTs side and top cases helped prevent more damage). Shelby's bike is a total loss, the insurance company (and the local BMW shop) is going to repair mine. Total cost so far? $13,500. I've been riding off and on for nearly 30 years now. Never have I come close to what happened before, but personally, I couldn't afford a $14,000 repair bill, which is nearly what Shelby's bike is worth. You're right, it's a gamble, but on a new bike I want full coverage. I'm not required to carry it, but I do just in case... Let's face it state requirements or not, too many idiots are driving without insurance and if they hit you, your bills are going to add up fast. My Uly is an '07, but I still want to keep full coverage for a while (by the way, had I been riding the Uly, like I planned that morning, I know it would have been totaled). For those who want to see images of the accident, Shelby took some with his iPhone and sent me a few. They are on my flickr site: accident photos Wayne (Message edited by wbrisett on June 16, 2009) (Message edited by wbrisett on June 16, 2009) |

Problem appears that being 64 and riding a Uly is a risk for them. Could it be because you ride amongst the biggest animals in the lower 48? 56 y/o, moto-endorsed 35 years, spotless driving record for the last 25. Just signed up with Progressive for $417 with $500 deductible on comp/coll. I've been with Rider/GMAC for years but they couldn't beat it. Unless I'm in the mountains the only animals I deal with are ones in cages who make it their lifestyle to run red lights and stop signs here in lovely S. Berdoo. GMAC raised my rates last year when we moved here from Ventura County because of the idiot drivers out here. O/T, but a relative signed me up for AARP when I turned 50, I quickly canceled the membership once I found out their political bent... |

I've been riding for over 30 years, and I pay $400/yr thru GEICO. My bike just turned over 500 miles, so she's still breaking in but I'm getting about 140 miles before my light comes on. I ride pretty aggressive too. For the past 8 years I've been on Harley's. I've owned ALOT of different m/c's. My Uly is the most nimble and fun. |

GEICO quoted me $1,200 Talked with the nice folks at Harley-Davidson a little while ago and they found me a deal for about half what I was paying Foremost through AARP. Go figure. |

Well I've only had my bike for four days but I've put just over 1800 miles on it thus far. It is an 06 and my worst tank ended up being 44mpg on the highway with a strong headwind and 98 degree temperatures. My best tank came to 61mpg coming down out of Denver with no wind and cool temperatures. Seems to typically hover around 50mpg so far. |
