Froggy or anyone else. What would the cost be to transform a STT into a Uly tail end? Parts needed if you can. I would also need the foot peg assembly. Also how many of you think that this would make for a great sport tourer? 5.65 inches of travel, ya know. Tanks for your time. Let it all out there. |

It would make a great sport-tourer. But why? If you're looking for a project, this will be a good one. If you're looking to save money, not so much. Consider how much time it will take. Your time is worth something. Parts aren't cheap. Aggravation. It might be worth it to sell the STT and buy a used XT. |

Tankhead, you should talk to Steve_mackay about this because I believe he did something similar with his motorcycle. Look up his Ulybolt information. |

Chris it could be done fairly easily I believe. I have an 09 Uly and the subframe rails look the same as the Lightning longs, only there are holes drilled for the extended Uly tail/seat bracket. If you like I could take some detailed pictures for you so you can assess whether it's something you want to tackle. Cheers Jodie |

The deal is that a local dealer has a 2007 STT new on the floor. They have offered me a good deal. If the savings are good enough I wouldn't mind purchasing the bike with the dealer setting it up modded for delivery. That is where I am with this. |

Will the dealer charge you labor for the mods? |

Side rails are the same, drilled in different places for the taillight 'bridge'. Uly bridge covers the holes from the STT bridge though. Needed: Uly taillight bridge Uly taillight Uly tail wiring subharness (longer) Uly tag bracket - outer Uly tag bracket - inner Uly seat latch Uly seat latch lock and linkage Uly grab handles Uly tripletail assembly Uly seat *possibly* a change to Uly undertail, battery tray/bracket, shock with handcrank preload adjustment, and fusebox. Don't know how it does/doesn't fit with an STT seat pan arrangement (your fuses, compression canister, and battery may be aligned differently under the STT seat as opposed to the Uly seat). |

Indeed they are. Just get the XB12XT, its the same suspension as the STT but with the better seat and standard bags. I ended up getting a good deal on a tail section off a wrecked bike on Ebay, but still I needed to do some major wiring mods and move tons of crap. I can guarantee you that if the dealer does it for you, your gonna cost more than the XT would be to start with. |

According to Buell's site, the XT has a little bit less suspension travel @4.9" vs 5.6", but the Uly has the remote preload adjuster, and a remote reservoir on the rear. If you are going to be doing the sport touring thing, the remote adjuster comes in some kind of handy, when putting bags on, taking bags off, removing contents, fine tuning. Agreed otherwise though, if you want a Uly, get a Uly, unless you have a parts bike sourced and are going to do the work. |

It's also riding time vs. wrenching time. In the winter, no big deal, but now, I don't know. |

Thanks everyone. Just thinking out loud. Just find it hard to believe that the cost of changing out a tail section would cost upwards of $4000.00. Just sayin' |

Dang! $4,000 , now that sheds new light on the subject. I would have to drill a lot of holes to make $4,000. I might be tempted to do the swap to save that much jing. |

Thetable, the springs are the same. The XT has a good chunk more weight and that results in a little less travel, or so it was explained to me.

I can break it down into part numbers if you want. Parts alone is going to make it close, I did $1000 and I was using USED parts. Oh, and I didn't even replace everything. |

The dealer will charge for the labor but hopefully we can negotiate that into the deal. Again just thinking out loud. Joesbuell, if you feel like posting pics I would appreciate it. |
