Yes. By the "splice" in the welds. The early ones didn't have the welds ground down, later ones did. I did some testing of prototypes and somewhere (buried in the crud I am about to start cleaning out) are a bunch of side-by-side photos I sent back to Buell when I received one of the early prototype headers. |

All I know is that I'd love to find another one that doesn't have a dent in it like mine. It wasn't all that noticeable until I polished it out... |

This is interesting! I just had an e-mail conversation with Brankin Bremer about the header on the #1000 S2 I recently bought. It looks so different from the race header on my #244 S2. Turns out the race header was built by Custom Marine and is super smooth. If you can see a weld bead, most likely you've got a Super Trap built header. Anybody out there have the "collectors" info and Timing cover for #1000? |

Your Custom Marine has the weld . . . . you just have to know where to look.

Those are NOT Custom Marine . . those are the first iteration. You can see the pipe slip splices and joints. The Custom Marine had welds in the same place but they were "butt welded" and ground smooth and polished. Brankin? |

Ebutch, Court is right, the pictures you posted of the S2 header show a Supertrapp header, which IIRC were used on all production S2's. It wasn't until Supertrapp was unable to supply replacement part orders (for S2's and RS/RSS bikes - slightly different headers, just ask the people who received RS/RSS headers for their S2's and they didn't fit...), after S2 production ceased if memory serves, that Custom Marine came on board. 1313 (Message edited by 1313 on June 14, 2009) |

Butch - that header is GORGEOUS. How many weeks did you spend polishing that?? Also, is that just a dash badge on the oil filter boss? Nice. Might have a place for my spare now... |

Yes Brankin. It is Supper-Trap.Wish it was Custom-Marine!Because of better finish! But as you said not many of them and Custom-Marine I think might not be as strong as Supper-Trapp? (Message edited by ebutch on June 15, 2009) |
