Hi, may be it's a stupid question but what's the best way to mount a D&D slip-on muffler on the X1, first the elbow then the muffler, elbow and then muffler, or the elbow and muffler and then both to the bike. what's the safest and easiest??? i have the "Y" front mount |

Elbow onto the collector, then muffler onto the elbow. If you try to install with the muffler already on the elbow, the mount tab on the elbow will interfere with the y mount unless the bike is hella high off the ground. Last time I spread assembly lube around the joints before assembling and it was SO easy to slide everything into place with no major stress points. (Message edited by pkforbes87 on June 12, 2009) |

Get everything installed before you tighten any fasteners. I get everything finger tight, then start the bike to make sure everything is settles where it wants to be. Any stress in the system will lead to mount failures and broken exhaust bolts. |

you mean only one hole is lining up from the rear muffler clamp to the z-bracket? if that's the case, you'll need to rotate the way the muffler is mounted into the elbow collector. |

You might need to loosen the rear clamp on the muffler for both holes to line up. |

"You might need to loosen the rear clamp on the muffler for both holes to line up." You can use this method or rotate the whole muffler inside of the elbow collector. I loosened my rear clamp, and rotated the muffler so that the outlet points down instead of to the left. It greatly decreased the annoying drone I was hearing while going down the highway. |
