Just finished a trip from Wisconsin to Arizona. Rode Hwy 191 along the east border from Eager to Clifton which is about 100 miles of curves and elevation changes and no traffic. I have ridden many great roads in the lower 48 but this one is probably the best. Anyone else do this road? The Uly runs great on these roads along with higher speeds on the super slab.

Cool. Where did you pick up 191 and how far into AZ did you take it? I followed on google maps all the way to the border in Montana. |

I have the same ULY, KS sign in my picture. I did the same stretch of 191 last fall. Having no traffic is spooky at times. The road is technical and keeps you wide awake for 100 miles. I did have my wife on the back but I feel the ULY handles much better 2 up even on that road. By the 80 miles mark she was ready to stop or puke in her helmet so I stopped. Did you happen to make it over to rt 60 near Globe, AZ? There is a stretch in that area that is super fun and fast. Drifting corners on cold roads with the wife on the back is really fun!!!! |

191 is a GREAT road (used to be Rt 666). Sometimes the southern end can get sandy. I usually get out there at least once a year. There are a few other very nice roads a few hours closer to home. Hitting 191 is a long day trip from the Phx area. Excellent over-nighter though. Mark in AZ |

From Albuquerque I sometimes do a loop down through Silver City, NM then up US 180 to the turnoff on 78 toward Mule Creek and down to the junction of 191 about 10 miles S of Clifton. Then it's "yee-haw" all the way to Alpine, where I cut back east and hit 180 again. Then wind my way north to Grants, NM and back on I-40. It's nearly a 700-mile day (with LOTS of curves), but a good one. The Uly is a perfect bike for 191. I rode it on my '92 Ducati back when it was 666. One of our group brought his V-max (instead of his Duc 916, duh?) and crashed pretty badly trying to keep up. --Doc |

Heckufa job Brown_e! I'm definitely hitting that road someday. The Google satellite pictures are enough to convince me. |

I just did it at the beginning of June, although I went north from Clifton/Morenci to Springerville (where I spent the night). Then on to Show Low and on down 60 to Globe and home. Great trip, about 700 miles in all. My only 2 problems were that I didn't pack warmly enough for my Tucson-tuned body (it was too cold for me up in the mountains), and the ribs on my right side started moaning for mercy, from when I took a spill off-road about a month ago. After awhile on the road, they started reminding me that they wanted to rest. The '09 saddle is the best one I ever had to sit on for miles and miles. Not to mention the bike being the best I ever rode. I think my poor old Suzuki M50 is getting jealous. When I walk by it nowadays to get on the Uly, I think it's begun spitting oil at me. Maybe I'll pay it some special attention when I get back home. I went to San Diego this week with my wife. Kind of a "most expenses" paid vacation for me. |

Yea, we made a loop towards Globe and then up Hwy 60 to Show Low. That Salt river canyon is neat too. I should mention that my wife rode her 08 Harley Road Glide right behind me but had to stop a few times from exhaustion. Pushing that big bike through those curves is work. Ending in Clifton is a trip with that big copper mine. Man, that thing is huge. We have been to Silver City, NM a couple of times. Hwy 152 east to Truth or Consequences is another good road with gentle curves. I have ridden "the dragon" in Tennessee a few times but there can be a lot of traffic on it. Not in the Southwest. |

I'm local, so I try to do the road as often as possible. We just rode it two weeks ago and it was greeeaaat! Typically we do a 3 day trip out of Phoenix. One day up there, spend the night in Springerville. Next day ride down to Morienci for lunch, and then back up to Springerville for dinner and happy hour. 3rd day we ride back, usually through the salt river canyon, yet another beulltiful stretch of road... 191 is definitly a must ride if your in AZ! |

1. Phoenix to Silver City 2. Loop east of Silver City & back in to the city, over Mule Creek Pass & up 191 to Springerville (via Alpine). 3. Springerville to Phoenix, via US 60 (Salt River Canyon) Mark in Arizona |

That was a lot of fun Bart. Even when losing half a quart a day. |
