Does anyone running with a 1250 kit with Hurricane forged pistons and Stage 1 headwork in its X1. I wondering if with this set up and with a Race ECM I will be close enough for the bike will runs fine.... or I going to need remap the Race ECM on a dyno, Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks. |

I would say no. Preybird is running a similar setup on his X1 but is having it fine tuned. The race ECM was not tuned properly for his build... |

The Race ECM is just a good starting point for any modification. Even my X1 (with just V&H and Forcewinder) improved quite a bit with some tweaking of the fuel maps, specially idle and off idle throttle responses. A single/generic set of maps can never accommodate all possible combination of upgrades. The main nice thing about dyno is it takes the trial and error out of the equation. |

Looking at doing a similar build. Dan at NRHS suggested a stage 2 light head port, 1250 kit and stock cams. He says race ecm will handle this fine. |

I am running the following 1. 1250cc Bolt-on kit for XB/2004 XL1200 Heads 3-9/16 bore iron lined aluminum cylinders 10.5:1 dome hurricane pistons, pins, clips, rings cometic head & base gaskets. Squish band is set at *20 2.The Heads are XL heads with the same factory porting as the xb heads. and then they are ported stage to 2 and get the bronze manganese valve guides, Over sized valve heads and smaller 7mm valves and only single beehive springs to reduce valve train weight 3. also screaming eagle .536 cams and custom fixed length push rods and billet base's 4. Race ECM. (newer) style for xb has the hole in it for the exhaust servo wire plug 5. force winder intake and a supertrap exhaust with 12 disks and an open end cap You can get it to run with just the static timing correct but it won't be right. I noticed also when i am coming to a stop the FI doesn't recognize soon enough to stop the throttle. It will keep the rpm up at 1500-2000 for 2-3 seconds unless you force it to drop rpm by letting out a little clutch to load the motor down, then the idle goes back to normal. The easiest way to do a minor tune with the mild set up you are talking about would be DOBECK TFI kit. X1Whunter is using it with great results! here is my thread on the build! http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/466554.html?1244331024 |

Thanks for listening and suggesting folks!. Preybird1, Are you running with a Race ECM Xb?.. I don't understand it or I don't know what did you mean?...if so, this is something I have never heard before. "I'm not a native speaker" I read many many posts about DOBECK TFI kit and mostly folks has ended pulling it off because they have had a lot of problems with it. BTW How much HP you got with this setup and Top speed?....what gain on torque? I hope can to putting it back together the next weekend. Work should to be finished up and ready for a test ride the next weekend. Let's see how goes all...... Regards. (Message edited by buellisticx1 on June 11, 2009) |

Russ, ECMSPY allows you to tweak deceleration fuel cut off and set the engine speed among other things. Not sure if it will address your issue but something to think about. |

Race ECM is for the race muffler on stock engine. The further you deviate from it's intended engine configuration, the worse the engine will run. I don't know of any other shop that would recommend such a configuration. Most at minimum will recommend proper dyno tuning of the fuel mapping. |

Bird I am curious just what does a DOBEC TFI do? Most Black box fixes, add or remove time from the pulses to the injectors, based on throttle position and possibly 02 input Most of these devices wind up interfeering with the operation of the ECM and getting pulled, I had the "POWER - COMMANDER" and paid "stupid tax" on the aquisition, I found Wunters post questionable why tune with ECM spy and then Add a "patch"? The best thing that ever happened to our fuel injected bikes Was the creation of the software for users to alter the maps and do basic diagnostics, BuellisticX1 good luck on your project! |

"I had the "POWER - COMMANDER" and paid "stupid tax" on the aquisition" I'm guilty of that as well. I still have it in a box, if someone wants it. You'll still have to pay the stupid tax consisting of the time you'll waste screwing with it. |

This is the most current instructions on the dobeck TFI http://www.dobeckperformance.com/TFI/adjustTFI.asp I have never used this personally so i really can't say how it works but a few are using it and swear by it, But i will get mine done the right way and post real and true hp numbers from the dyno! The bike is sitting at the shipping dock until monday when JTS can go in and get it. They have a big race weekend and access to there shop is not available during races or race weekends, First the header needs to be drilled and an o2 sensor bung welded on the front header so they can tune it correctly. So a couple of days for the welder and then they can tune it in 1 day. Also they told me it works better to tune it at sea level and then bring it to altitude and not vise versa. I am inclined to believe this as they (JTS PERFORMANCE) come up and hit Bonneville for the LSR and there personal bikes have many records at the salt flats. |

I'm running a 1250 kit, 10.5:1 hurricane 15* dome pistons, stock thunderstorm heads, stock .497 (X1/S3) cams. I messed with the fuel maps until the AFV stabilized and right now they are 5% richer than the race maps across the entire fuel map. I still need to get it dyno tuned to fix a couple of minor hickups and high TPS and low rpm, but my rough-tuning with ecmspy has it running safely. With headwork and/or higher lift cams, I believe you'll lean the bike out on the top end if you stick with the factory race maps. |
