I was checking out a few post and noticed some words in a couple about Japanese, Korean and China products as compared to American...I have noticed more people in here are for American products than the Asian counter parts. I was wondering what type of vehicles everyone owns. I own a Dodge mini van and a buell motorcycle. And hopefully in 3 to 5 years there will be a Caddy CTS parked in my garage. I have bought 6 brand new cars in my life and everyone of them have been an American companies car. Motorcycles I have bought 4 new 2 Jap and 2 American But for the last 8 years I have tried to buy made in USA or at least an American companies product excusively...There is no way any other country can match American quality...and if someone wants to argue that then tell me why America has the best military equipment as compared to all other countries and why America is the leader in space travel. Our government turns to American companies to make and build their equipment. And we do have the best I just wish the rest of the Americans would back more Americans companies. So what vehicles do you own? |

I currently own an '08 Mitsubishi Raider. The main reason for my purchase was the service department. They did all the work on my Eclipse and I was always very pleased. They never overcharged or tried to con me into extra work. I'm always treated like an intelligent valued customer, not just a wallet with legs. I prefer American made products but ultimately customer service is what wins my business. Today I ordered tires from a from a different local dealer than i used to. My old shop was cheap and did free mounting and balancing but I wasn't thrilled with them the last time I got a tire and this time they put me on hold and never picked the phone back up. That cost them my business. Now i'm getting them from a small independent shop that hosts local bike nights and rides. They cost a little bit more but if they provide better service it will be worth it. |

04 Saturn Ion (wife's commuter car) 00Chevy Silverado 1500 (wife's tow vehicle for horse trailer) 05Dodge Magnum 97 Goldwing/DFT trike conversion 03 Goldwing 00 Buell Cyclone M2 09 Buell 1125cr 07 Suzuki dr200se dual sport 04 Honda 400 rancher 4x4 quad Hey it's a world economy now so it is harder to tell what is built here by foreign companies and what is manufactured elsewhere and final assembled here, even by American companies. Whatever will keep Americans at work, I am in favor of it. If we have the best and most innovative products, we should be ok. Protectionism is short sighted and doesn't work anyway. |

+1 Purple on the customer service. I bought a 2008 Mustang GT and was willing to put up with a few "American engineering" headaches (which the GT most certainly came with) in order to support American-based manufacturing. However, dealing with the Ford dealerships (notice the plural) has been an abysmal experience. My wife's Hyundai, on the other hand, has been relatively flawless. But more importantly, it's the Hyundai DEALERSHIP that has made me such a fan. Those guys are simply a breeze to deal with, and they seem to go out of their way to win our maintenance business. On more than one occasion, the dealership has sent someone to my wife's workplace to pick the car up for an oil change, no charge! ~SM |

And when the Axiom is paid off I'll be selling that to purchase an 81' F-150 Stepside. I prefer American made products but ultimately customer service is what wins my business. I agree 100% with that statement. |

Tricky one here, Depends on whether one wishes to be nationalist or European. All the Auto manufacturers trade with each other, example my wife's Ford Focus C-Max, built in Germany, but has a Peugeot diesel made in France. My local Peougeot/Citroen plant fit some models with Ford motors from the UK, I know, I haul them. Other alternatives are Peugeot/Citroen models made in Czech or Spain, or Renaults made in Roumania, or Toyota's made in France or UK, or Nissans & Honda's made in UK. Where do you draw the line? My current fleet, in age order, youngest first. '07 Buell XB12stt, (on '08 plate). '06 Ford Focus C-Max tdci Ghia. '99 Buell M2 (bent, awaiting rebuild). '92 Opel Corsa diesel. '68 Dodge D 100 Sweptline Pickup. The only 2 vehicles I have ever bought new are motorcycles, & both times because dealers were moving job lots of old stock at prices approaching that of used & on models that I wanted, the TT last year, & my first bike back in '77 a Suzuki TS250M, (dealer discounting is nothing new). I won't buy new cars as the initial depreciation is just too much, I tell people I'm doing my bit for the planet by not using up valuable resources. |

Currently we have a 1996 Chrysler Town & Country and a 2005 Mazda3 to go along with the 2004 Firebolt. In the last five years we've also had: 2006 Mazdaspeed6 1994 Miata (turbo) 2001 Accord 1999 Escort 1988 F150 The domestic vehicles in that list all served their purpose, but all were lower in quality than the Japanese vehicles we've owned. I'm quite fond of our Town & Country for it's posh ride and 4 captain's chairs, but I've had it towed to the dealer for a failed PCM once already and from what I've read on Chrysler forums it's not an uncommon failure. It will be replaced with a Honda Odyssey as soon as the budget allows. |

> There is no way any other country can match American quality I dunno about all that. Part of the problem with American products is a lack of quality as compared with foreign products. American cars always get low marks for fit and finish. Or at any rate, that's what Top Gear tells me. I've only owned Chevy and Ford, so I have no basis for comparison. I'd say American products have character more than quality. Take my old M2, for instance. The bike was fun to ride, and it turned heads, but it broke down or sprang a new oil leak every time I turned around, and I never even got the mileage into double digits. My Ulysses has been far more reliable, but the fit and finish isn't great. I hate the way the seat doesn't line up with the airbox, for instance. For comparison, my GSX-R has excellent lines. Everything fits together precisely. Or rather it did before I turned it into a track bike. It has no soul, though. It's completely interchangeable with every other Japanese supersport. Suzuki also has none of the same community (much less corporate involvement in the community) that Buell does. I don't see any of the same enthusiasm, pride, or brand loyalty for Suzuki that I see for Buell. |

Been driving GM's most of my life. Currently a '02 Chevy Lumina mini van. The wife has a '98 Buick Century. Happy with the product, but like Buell the Dealer service departments keep trying to convince me to buy something else. Our experience with local Chevy dealers actually makes my Buell dealer look golden. Seeing that my wife's father was a GM employee we once got a special call from a GM exec. to as us about our service experience. He listened patiently without making any excuses. He then asked where we lived so that he might suggest a dealer that could take care of us better. When I told him we were in the western burbs of Chicago he simply apologized. I appreciated his honesty. |
