Psycrow, I know EXACTLY how you feel. I bout my 98 S1 a couple of years ago and it has been riddled with problems. I have actually only put about 1500 or less miles on it in those two years due to these consistent problems and if I actually kept track of actual time, I would say I am working on the bike to correct a problem at lease two, maybe three time more than I spend actually riding and enjoying it. And even when I do go for a ride, I always bring my cell as if I'm expecting to be stranded and I would never, ever consider a long distance trip on it any more than outside the county that I live in. However, all in all I love my bike and at least I am learning about these things for myself because dealer fees for service are astronomical! |

Buelistic and others, I respect your opinions and value your wrenching experience but I'm wrenching on my Buell more out of necessity than desire or ability. Im a IT professional not a mechanic however the nearest dealer is 2.5 hours away and after the local Harley "Expert" butchered my bike I decided even I could do better. I can't even drive 15 min to pick up a Gasket or rubber seal at the "Steelership" I have to ship everything in and being in Canada that is not always convenient. My local industrial supply store has been invaluable with bits of rubber and missing bolts. Guell and Joe I took the M2 on a 3000 mile trip to the Dragon the first summer I had it with never a thought to break downs. That's when I first got introduced to the bikes "Quirks" the first time I stopped and noticed oil all over my right pant leg I was like "WTF the dealer I bought from didn't warn me about this!" needles to say I had to stop at two dealerships on that trip for minor repairs but repairs none the less. When I mentioned the oil coming from the airbox they laughed at me saying that's normal like I should have known. Seems Ive been wrenching ever since. I'm glad some here have the time and know how to do all their own wrenching. I'm a 30's something father of 3 and the only thing I have less than money of is time. I'm not completely ragging on the Bike here I really love most things about it I'm just a little frustrated. Sometimes ( and I mean only sometimes) I really wish Id found this board before I'd purchased. Im glad Im not the only one who feels like this. Texas, Id love to drop it off at the Dealers and say have at it boys new ISO's all around but the bike only has 18,000 miles on it I just didn't expect to have to replace all the Motor mounts this soon and I cant afford it right now in any case. I know the rubber itself is relatively cheap but for some of us here putting a frame spreader on the bike and ripping out the Mounts is a daunting task. Psy |

Brinnutz, I feel for you man, I just wanna ride. I was just hoping that buying a Bike with such low Miles would allow me a couple of years of low maintenance. I'd never get mine back together if it looked like that. Maybe when the kids are older and I have more free time. Psy |

Mine had 4500 on it when I bought it, 14500 when I tore it apart. So what was that about low mileage? LOL |

Thats from my last ride up into NC. Still havnt heard back from the company yet. Last long trip i took it broke down too. Its becoming an irritating motorcycle. I enjoy wrenching on it, but damnit, a motorcycle from the 90's shouldnt need so much "preventative maintenance" I love when its running perfect, just not in between. |

Real motorcycle owners have grease under their chipped fingernails, and a roll of bailing wire under the seat... My Blast ate three (stock)front isolators in less than 5,500 miles...if it manages to break the new one, I'm going to turn it into a lawn planter...(It won't break)... |

Well, I changed my isolator today. I used the Drag Specialties iso, and like others have said, it transmits more vibration than I used to have. Hopefully, after some time, perhaps the vibration will lessen. Too bad for us that there isn't a definitive replacement. See you all at Homecoming. |

By design these things are going to require attention but I don't feel that it is an inordinate amount once the known faults are corrected. Most of the time and money that I have spent on my S1 was to customize it. This is after resolving the blown shock, weak front springs, jingle rotor and blown isos. The amount of character that Tubers have almost offsets the maintenance needs. When I park my S1 next to a line of other bikes it seems to draw an unusual amount of attention |

No matter how long I go without logging into the badweb, there is always BOUND to be a thread about "Front Iso" within 10 from the top. HA! The bullet wounds still ache when I think about it.... |

Got a question - Has anyone tried the isolator from True-Track? 20-92 TRUE-ISOHLATOR FRONT TOURING/FXR http://www.true-track.com/tt_products.html Just wondering if it's a good solution. Zack |
