WARNING: I know nothing of electricity, so if this happens to be a really stupid question please bear with me. I have heated grips wired to my accessory plug, but would also like to add a GPS mount. What is the best way to wire in an additional device? I have just spent about 2 hours reading through all the archived posts on making accessory plugs, gps units, and so on, but I haven't seen any discussion on the proper way to wire in multiple trinkets. I have seen quite a few of you with 2-10 things running (holy crap Ccryder), so I figure the expertise is definitely here. |

Are your heated grips the ones from BMC? If so, there's a daisy-chain outlet on the grips' harness you can plug into. The ECM is in charge of power distribution, only add accessories to the Accessory circuit. That way when your voltage drops, the ECM can shut off loads... If you have aftermarket grips, splice into the grips' power for you GPS. Be careful, make good connections and insulate well. Z |

Take this tip from a self-confessed electrical idiot: if you are doing any splicing, get some Posi-Tap connectors. http://www.posi-lock.com/posiplug.html |

Your best splice will be soldered, but if inexperienced, don't try it. Next best is butt-splices, properly sized for the wire and Sta-Con crimpers. Klein makes a good crimper, it leaves a dimple in the crimp to better hold the wires.. Last on the list is Posi-locks. They are about as good a splice as the rhythm method is for birth control. Z |

I'm pretty handy with solder, but shouldn't need it. I took a closer look at the heated grip install, and it seems like it is not using the accessory plug at all. Does it make sense that it would be wired into the harness via some other plug (black in color vs gray)? I still have the accessory plug free, and it looks like there's actually a pigtail on there as well. The pic below shows the heated grip wiring directly into the harness via another plug (circled in red), and the accessory plug with pigtail (circled in green) still unused. Does this look correct?

The Buell heated grips use the accessory plug, but has a spare socket on the harness to plug an accessory into... daisy-chain. Looks like the same set-up I have on Loretta. Best solution is make a plug or get a Uly accessory plug, p/n Y0198.1AK (MSRP 15.00) for the plug and splice that to your GPS dock. You already have the plug housing, that's the dummy-plug in the socket put there to keep the elements out; all you need are pins and some retainer parts. Unless you add a socket, the daisy-chain stops there. Z (Message edited by zac4mac on May 27, 2009) |

If you are thinking about more than one extra accy., you may want to power a 4-8 terminal strip so you can add a few more goodies (GPS, Passport X50, XM sat-radio...) Yep I have a few of those goodies mounted and running up front. Time4Sleep Neil S. |

Ccryder, Sounds like a good idea to me. Do you have any pics of the terminal strip on your bike and where its located? |

Here is my front terminal strip I use for my Zumo, PIAA and whatever else. I just tuck it up under the fairing bracket and use a wire tie to keep it in place.

Mine was near center in the wiring bundle under the fairing. Easier to find if you remove the fairing. A 10mm wrench will fit the mirror nuts. Follow the wires down the fairing support and find the bullet connectors. Remove the nuts, feed/pull the wires out. There is 1 screw on each side, near center left and right, bottom - T-30. That's it, pull the fairing off and put it somewhere safe. Happy wire chasing. Zack |

I searched on "Auxiliary Power" as it is called in the owners manual, and could not find anything, figured I could post faster than try searching on the various names one might call it, "Accessory plug" for example including all the spelling variations. ;-(=) Thanks...Chris |

Chris: At least you tried! We have tried to find a supplier that would sell any of us the components to make the plug. It's actually cheaper to buy the cigarette lighter and just use the Sumitomo plug (go figure). One Buelligan was able to find the correct pins/ sockets/ etc to make his own plug from the blank plug that is usually installed in the female socket that's attached to the M/C. Later Neil S. |

Has anyone tried http://www.powerletproducts.com/ I called them and spoke with Jeff this morning and he is looking into into the plug and possible making a short dongle to convert to SAE and/or Coax. |

I used Powerlets on my FJR with mixed results. I hear they finally got a good method to mount one in a wet environment (ie under the seat) but I'd sold by FJR by then. Good customer support tho. |

Can someone tell me where the auxilary power connector is on an 1125CR? Behind the flyscreen. Once you take it off, you'll see it's pretty empty inside there and will just be chillin' out in there. |

And, yes, it's technically called the accessory outlet. |

You meant to say "auxiliary power", as documented on page 74 of the owners manual. ;-(=) |

So then there are two "auxiliary power" connectors on the 1125CR, one under the seat and another in the head light bucket? |
