I have the aluminum swingarm on my S1 and just picked up a CF rear fender. It didn't have any mounting hardware. When I put a thin nylon washer between the wellnut and the inside of the fender it looks off center. This is due to one side having 2 mounting points vs the other with one. I think there must be a thicker washer for the inside. Can anyone help with a picture showing the hardware inside and out? | ||

I just used the well nut against the fender and a plastic washer against the outside of the fender followed by the Allen button head bolt. If overtightened it will pop the well nut out and the fender will hit the belt. Ask me how i know?  | ||

The only one i had was one where i had lost the well nut and bolt on the rear hugger. And if i edited the photo it was to small to even see the mounting hole or the bolt for that matter. | ||

i believe the "washers" that hold that on are the rubber type just like the wind screen. kinda like a rubber tube, with metal threads inside of it and one end of the tube has a bigger lip on it | ||

X1carbon - LOL I thought it was funny! Limited - Hit it on the nose. All the mounting points need the rubber grommet with the brass inserts. | ||

I get it. Thanks Mark. 11 Posts in 8 years and two of them are on this thread. 4000 miles in 10 years? Thanks for your help LOLNOTREALLY. I think you need 3 front fenders to match the rear. Just a mini jab back. On to my little issue. I was talking about the hugger. This is one of those things that I can really figure out on my own but decided to post. Most of the time I offer solutions instead of questions. I have the rubber grommets with the brass threaded inserts. They are called wellnuts. I have those. My question was...is there anything like maybe a 1/4" nylon washer between that and the inside of the fender? What is the stock hardware stack? I'm not looking for exact dimensions or threads but more like wellnut, thick nylon washer, fender, thin washer, bolt, happiness, etc. No pics really needed. It doesn't have to be carbon...so if anyone has a rear hugger on their X1 or M2 or other aluminum swingarm and hugger that fits well please stand up. Thanks to all that try to help. | ||

Should just be screw, washer, fender, wellnut - tighten carefully in order to proceed to happiness portion of the install. Think of the wellnut as a miniature iso for your fender, the cf or fiberglass rides against the rubber flange on the wellnut to dampen vibration. I'll see if I can get a quick close-up when I get home. | ||

Actually, about 6600 miles on the Buell in 10 yrs., 36k on my Wing in 7 yrs, and 18k on my ZX-12R in 8 yrs. I know my rear fender looks like I'm towing a ping pong table, but, I just can't sawzall the mighty 1999 X1 Lightning Carbon Fiber Extreme factory limited edition no. 173 of only 250 made. Gotta keep it absolutely stock, duncha know...? Three front fenders? Nope just one pretty one.  I won't jack yer thread anymore. Ride safely. | ||

X1, you could perhaps replace the stock fender with an aftermarket piece, then get some cheap plastics and ride the snot out of that thing... Enjoy that bike, there's lots of take off scoops and airboxes out there as well, so you could have it ready for city havoc and canyon carving in just an hour or so. I know the finish on the CF Extreme Edition was different - but none of the factory Buell CF parts I've ever run held up very well. The finish has always lost shine and clarity. Maybe the high mountain desert sun's uv is hard on that finish? Put 'em in a box, and just bolt them back on for bike shows and such! ...thread jack complete... |
