4xfast I had issues with my battery dying after a day or so of sitting. Thanks to this site I was able to diagnose the problem as the infamous instrument cluster parasitic draw. I took it to the shop twice and they finally listened to me and checked the Tech Bulletins. I was also getting a low fuel light way before I should have been getting one. Long story short it was replaced under warranty and now I have an 09 version with the gear indicator. I like it other than the gear goes to dashes when the clutch is pulled in. Hope this made sense. |

Thanks Maul. Good info. The dealership I am looking at claims to have made all the recommended changes. As I mentioned on another thread, my new problem is I am moving to VT and I don't see a dealer in the whole state. Now to buy an 08 with no access to warranty work...I would be laughed off the forum. |

4xfast, I just responded to your other post about moving to VT. Take a look at the BRAN thread on this forum, lots of help out there. Manchester (NH) did my warranty recalls while I waited -- made an appointment, bike was ready in a little over an hour. I've only got 1200 miles on the bike, but zero problems (so far, so good anyway). I find it very tractable as a daily rider in all traffic situations. |

Thanks Whynot. I will be in the Burlington VT area. Looks like its Troy NY closest at 132 miles or Laconia NH at 155 miles. Wow. What a bummer. I guess theres always the thought of picking up a used air cooled (XB12R or X) that a local mechanic or myself could work on. |

Funny you should mention the Daytona. It is on my short list. But, I think I want something that is a bit easier on the ole back. '09 Street Triple R is your answer... I had an '06 D675- loved it. I just picked up an '09 STripR and it does everything the D675 did- just more comfortably. Another nice perk is maximum torque arrives almost 2,500 rpm's lower than the Daytona. It's one hell of an all-around street bike. You should check it out. |

And, the ST3 is on the list. Rode one of those too. I haven't taken another test on it though......afraid I couldn't give it back. I think the 1125r has slowly slipped off my list. There are just too many issues and, most importantly, I'm not sure how committed the local dealer is to Buell. I do appreciate all of the responses. FWIW: the list, as it now stands, includes a bizarre combination of bikes: Suzuki GSXR600 Triumph Street Triple Triumph Bonneville (the one with the cast wheels) They couldn't be more different could they? Thanks for all of your gracious help people....I cannot thank you enough. |

I am shopping too... but I didn't like the high pitch whistle of the triple R, I fell in love with a Ducati Hypermotard, but it scares the wife she wouldn't go near it much less ride two up with me, so its out for now.I made the mistake of confirming that it was the same motorcycle in Yes man... but take a look at one, you may like it, its one of the most intuitive machines I have been on other than my dirt bikes. and best of all.. its still a twin! Ccryder those bags look great! I never liked the air scoops on the bike but those bags balance out the machine beautifully. where did you get them? |

I was just about to put my down payment on a brand new 08 but backed out at the last minute. My nearest buell dealer is over 3 hours away. If I had any problem I would hate to have to trailer it up there and back.I love buells and the looks of the 1125r but it would just be a hassle for me. |

Delta, I have ridden the Hypermotard. Your wife and I agree! I didn't like that thing. I sure sounded nice, but it rode like the Lightning that I wasn't so fond of, and for a lot more money. In addition, check out the whining about parts availability on the Ducati forums. While they are sexy, they aren't worth the upkeep....kinda like some women. |

CMeKillu and Aliii, Similar issues for me. I really really like the Buell and it seems like the only bike on my mind at this point. But an 08 is probably more likley than anything else I'd consider to see warranty work and I don't even have a trailer for the huff to Albany/Troy!!! I am still pipe dreaming over it but can't seem even myself being that impractical! I am looking at or have looked at other bikes like the Multistrada and Beamers but now I'm kind of stuck wanting to buy Buell. I guess I should check out a Daytona also. My current bike which I'll keep is my trusty fast 03 FZ1. I also have pending surgery in June which will knock me out of riding for a few weeks so maybe its gonna be an end of season decision. Great stuff on this forum! |

I use my 08 1125r more like a sport-tourer, getting 37mpg, and with the 5.3g fuel capacity, that's almost a 200 mile range. I just added the Firebolt "Custom" seat and the Buell tailbag and went for a little 160 mile test ride this morning to check it out. It was good. Maybe I'm just lucky, but the bike has given me no problems these first 1300 miles. I love my Ducati Monster S4R, too, but start looking for a gas station when I hit 50 miles. I had to add the full Termi exhaust system ($2500) to get it to run right, and the Sargent seat ($400) so I could sit on it for more than 5 minutes. And the Rizoma bars ($130) to get the right sweep, etc. ... But one nice thing about getting a new Ducati or Moto Guzzi (probably Aprilia, too) is that the two-year warranty includes roadside assistance, not that I've had to call. |

Whynot, Excellent point on the roadside assistance. I guess my AMA coverage would get me towed to a shop somewhere...but 128 miles away? Maybe. I'm still miffed that there are no dealerships in VT and none within 130 miles of Burlington. |

Arron: Thanks for the kudo's The bags are Givi V35. I modified a Givi bracket for a V-Strom by heating, beating, bending and, drilling here and there (;+}). Besides the bags, I did about 25 other farkels to make my 1125r into MY 1125rt. I'm 95% complete, just a few finishing touches remaining. Time2Run Neil S. |

Thanks, Jaimec, I just joined AMA -- what a deal. 4xfast, good luck deciding, what with so many bikes to chose from. As to Vermont, with a pop. of 600,000 or so, it's probably not a big market for a lot of products. BTW, Vermont has no Ducati dealers, either. |

Alii1959 I believe you are right on the price, I don't know what they retail for I was looking at a demo bike with some upgrades but a big chunk of change off because it had 250 miles on it. I have not been out on a lightning yet, my dealer sent me out on a Firebolt telling me other than the bars they were the same bike. I didn't like it that much, but now I hear that they may have a bad bike, it’s a leftover '08. The throttle was like a light switch (nothing for the first half twist and full throttle thereafter) the clutch was the same way, and the fork was loose and sloppy, dive and lift with every action. I had no idea about the parts problem... I will look into it... I think it will just make it less attainable. If a lightning rides similar it will be the bike for me. My KZ is just running out of breath on the highway, I need more CC’s. |
