Folks: I posted this on Knowledge Vault also but this page seems much more active. anyway here goes again. My fiance's 07 Scg 30A (battery) fuse keeps blowing. She parked the bike out in the rain one night and the next morning nothing. checked the fuses, 30A shot, replaced and blew as I was inserting with the key out of the ignition. disonncected the battery (both postive and negative) inserted another fuse same thing. No accessories conneced to bike nor battery.I am not sure where or what to start with in the finding the problem. It sounds like a short to me, but I am elctronicly almost illeterate. Help, all I know about electronics is that if you are not careful the electrons escape in a cloude of smoke. |

OK, if the battery is disconnected and a fuse blows when inserted then the bike IS possessed and must have a wooden stake driven through the ECM, oak or maple should be hard enough to penetrate! Seriously though rain water can't conduct enough to short a fuse on a 12v system but it can loosen metal particles that could make a path to ground such as could be in the not-so-well-sealed L & R controls. Being it's the 30A main I would think it's a chaffed wire at the steering head, which should have nothing to do with the rain. |

Ronmold (or anyone else)-Do you think perhaps it is in the switches? Also strange that it happened after being out all night in the rain and there have been no prior warnings or indications of lectrical problems. I wil check for chaffed wires. Also only happens if the battery is connected. Perhaps I should take the battery out an put it in my Uly and see if the same thing happens? |

I don't have an Scg wire diagram but I assume it's similar to the Uly in that most of the sub-systems served by the 30A fuse are fused themselves with smaller fuses which certainly would blow before the big 30 would. The short must be near the fusebox itself or it could be the voltage regulator or it's connector which comes direct off that 30A fuse, you really need the diagram. |

Not sure what yours is, but my 07 kept blowing the 30A fuse at odd times, nothing repeatable - dealer finally fixed it by replacing the voltage regulator. |

Folks: Thanks for all the input so far. After tossing and turning most of the night, I jumped up out of bed at 3 am and dug through the files. Fiance's purchased bike 4/27/07 problem hit 5/25/09, less than one month after expirtion of warranty, also less than 5K miles, she doesnt ride much. I contacted Annapolis Buell/Harley and service mngr. said that buell is very good when warrenty issue is that close and he will check into coverage for me. Seems as if the ball is now in play and it is up to Buell Customer service/Relationsas as to whether they will step up to the plate or not. As a 2 Buell family I sure hope so. Will keep all you folks that have been very helpful posted as to Buell's response and also what is discovered as the problem. |

Buell historically has been good with goodwilling warranty items on expired bikes. |

Does the Scg have the 77 connector? |

Check the relays. They're the big gray lumps in the fuse box. I've heard of this before, but it was caused by hooking up a battery backwards (it was the wrong battery, and the terminals were on different sides). I don't remember if it was the 30A fuse, but I think it happened when the key was turned on. A new relay is under $5 at the dealership, so they're cheap to replace. |

I would take a picture of the fuse box. so you get it back in the correct order easily. Then pull every fuse and relay out of it except for the 30 amp fuse and see if it still blows. If it does then you have something wrong in the fuse box voltage regulator area. |

Lost-In-Ohio: I did that very suggestion yesterday. I took everything out of the fuse box including diode and relays. With everything removed and key in my pocket to make sure there was no current, I inserted 30A fuse and puff there it went again. Seems like as you say all I have left now is perhaps a problem in the 30A fuse socket voltae Regulator, Key Switch Relay socket or chaffed wire (these other alternatives were given to me from Sparkey on the Knowledge Vault Page) |

Unplug the "77" connector on the lower R side of the engine. It's got the red & black hefty wires going to it that come from the volt reg. Then try the fuse. |

Ronmold: Will do this afternoon. I already repaired mine on the Uly by crimping them together with water resistant shrink tubbing then covered connections with liquide tape. Seems like the #77 connector went bad on my Uly last year 10 days before the expiration of warranty. Will let you know what I find out. |

Battery Hooked up backward! Need help, determining what was damaged. After given a battery with incorrect polarity w/ blown pump and ignition fuse. I have replace w/ correct battery and replaced fuse and pump relay. After all this the bike cranks w/ fault "fuel pump system error" and will blow fuel pump fuse over and over. Looking for next idea to sort this out? |
