Well I was doing my research on the 08 1125R fueling/cooling problems and what actually solved them if they were ever solved. I spoke to a dealer here in NYC area and he told that, and he stated he was embarassed to say this, all the problems with the 08's were due to incorrectly installed camshafts. He stated that the camshafts were flipped and were installed this way on ALL 08's. I am still not sure what he was talking about but I could not find anything on this "new" revelation on this excellent forum. Has anyone heard this or has there been a definitive answer on what plagued the 08's?? I take it the re-flash did not solve all the problems and the 09's are clearly better? Thanks |

I agree. It was a rather amusing conversation. Did the all-solving re-flash solve the issues with 08 heating/cooling and surging? I know this is a broad based question but I have read posts from 08 owners who have had the re-flash work for them and others where it made little difference. |

The "Great and Powerful Reflash of 2008" did the trick. And certainly if the cam had been "flipped" on the motor, I don't see what sort of tuning could be used to solve that problem. The difference was night and day for my bike and many, many others. Tell your dealer to do real research and stop getting on IL4 forums and spreading disease and mischief. Not saying the bike is perfect, but damn if it isn't fun to ride. And it's much more fun that any of my previous steeds with cookie cutter production styling and ring-a-ping motors. |

That goes along with the metric to SAE conversion hiccup and the loose nut behind the handlebars (Oops that's me ;+}). I did have one low compression piston and one high compression piston installed from the factory in my 1979 Moto Guzzi V50 II. Stranger things can happen. |

the cam framus was coated with Black-T instead of teflon and the muffler bearings were installed correctly after the reflash of the headlight solinoid. End of Story!! |

The last re-flash was probably a re-flash of everyone's brain. While all were completely paralyzed by the flash, the elves from Buell quickly flew around the world and flipped the cams back around. You think I'm kidding, but I seen it on Men In Black. Man I don't know how someone like that moron dealer in NYC could ever be embarassed. His wife, mother, father, friends maybe... |

I heard the problems were a result of the bike being 25mm taller than advertised. |

Amazing . . . it's what I view as the "natural cerebral void paradox". . . . for every kook telling one of these stories there are two believing it. |

I just got done installing a toggle switch on my handlebars so i can flip the camshaft back and forth depending on my needs. Now i just need to top off the turbo fluid and im good to go. Btw anyone know where i can get a can of pneumatic fluid? (Message edited by Misterrich on May 27, 2009) |

Actually, it was a faulty flux capacitor. When they were making them, someone poured pancake batter in the toaster, causing the chinchillas to become aroused. Anyone who knows anything about gymnastics knows what a bad situation this can cause when you need to poop out flux capacitors in a public restroom. |

On the Suzuki SV650, if you install the exhaust cam on the intake side.... Immediate increase in power. Serious. This probably is completely irrelevant to this conversation anyway but it is interesting. And the cams look stock to the layman tech inspector. They don't say "Yoshimura" on them or anything anyway... |

Can't do that with an 1125. Only one cam chain per cylinder and it drives the intake cam, The exhaust cam is gear driven off the intake cam. However, each cam has its own p/n, so maybe it's possible to switch front/rear. My Loretta is #154 and she has always run strong. Smooth whenever I have an AFV around 95. Z |

Maybe those mass-less frictionless plates I always ran across in Physics problems would help here. I heard auto-zone has a special on them |

4xfast, Gonna take you at your word that the dealer actually said that. That said, I would think that the dealer has a, how shall I say it delicately? He has a less than flattering opinion of your mechanical skills. I don't think I would go back there if I were you. On the other hand, maybe he is just a very funny guy having a little fun at your expense. Sticks and stones.... |

Block I kid you not. The owner of the dealership told me that the camshafts had been mis-installed by the factory...on ALL of 08's. Something to the effect of what Zac4Mac said...rear p/n installed on the front etc... I think you could say there was a knowledge gap as I'm no Buell or V-Twin expert but I sensed this was a wopper of a tale... On a better note. I have found a few places with leftover 08's that claim to have had all the remaps and recalls done so I am looking forward to test driving one soon. Just the activity on this forum makes me want to own a Buell. |

4Xfast, We have had more than a few folks who fabricate Buell stories. That probably accounts for the flames. I fail to understand what they get out of doing that, but it is not uncommon. I think there should be a Troll board. Anyway, like many of us, I have been to the factory, met the assembly line crew, Erik and the whole management team. Buell tries really hard. That is why they still exist in a world of hyper competition. If you want a good deal, contact Frederick Buell in Frederick, Maryland and ask for Joe. They have 08 1125s for around 9 or so grand. Call him. They have a superb race team and amazing mechanics. They sponsor Brian Bemisderfer. They can build you a race bike. I'm a big fan of Buell. I have an 08 1125R. Runs like a scalded dog. (Southern saying). The whole issue of the flashes and high temps is discussed at length in Roadracing World & Motorcycle Technology Vol 18, Number 12 of December 2008. The article is called "Buell Uber Alles" by Sam Quarelli Fleming. I got it at the DC IMS at the Buell kiosk. That issue (high temps and bad fuel economy) is old news. There are a lot of very knowledgeable folks on this forum who can and will go the extra mile to help you out. Oh, and rest assured that Rotax doesn't build engines backwards...but if they did and it still ran (look at Danny Eslick's record)...that would be one heck of an engine wouldn't it? I would go out and buy me one! Good luck. |

Black, Thanks for the good info. I found the article online and its what I was looking for. Yeah I am used to the forum banter. Its all good. I opened up a can of worms and expected some good humor. But the story is true. See ya on a 1125R someday. |

I have to agree with the re-flash doing the trick. My bike was running week and not wanting to accelerate much below 5 or so RPMs. I just got the bike back yesterday and a world of difference. It's like i found my balls again (and in need of a good radar detector again lol). (Message edited by nivek on May 29, 2009) |

Way off topic, but on old Kawi KZ motors, you can flip flop intake and exhaust cams. You have to delete the mechanical tach drive gear, but it works. (Message edited by fast1075 on May 29, 2009) |

It is so great to read posts on a thread that make me laugh. BTW I think the pistons in my 1125R were installed upside down. |
