Time to replace the rotor on my S3 and was looking for feedback on iron vs stainless rotors. Took a while to find but it looks like EBC makes both stainless and iron rotors. Checked KV but didn't find much on the subject. Anyone have any feedback on the use of iron? Thanks. |

I've used both through he years and I don't find any difference in brake preformance. Living in the Pacific Northwest I go for stainless. |

Iron rusts if you look at it crosseyed. Performance is on par either way. |

I went from the stainless on my S1 to an iron Ferodo, I saw a big improvement. My original was pretty worn though. |

Does the iron rotors do anything to PM wheels? Will the rust stain the wheels if it rains and runs down the wheel? |

From American Sport Bike: "6106 Lyndall Gold+ for best street braking performance with excellent feel, recommended for all iron rotor applications, but great on stainless too. 5432HH and 5430S sintered pads for long pad life with greater grip on stainless rotors, but harder on rotor surface. 5432 Carbon/Kevlar EBC or 5430P Ferodo Platinum pads are more economical and easy on the disc. Sounds to me like it also depends on what pads you're using. I like the feel of lyndall gold pads on the stock rotor. On a side note - anyone know if a specific type of master cylinder works better than the stock one on these bikes? Preferably one that can be sourced cheap from another wrecked bike? |

The BrakeTech web site used to sell iron rotors for Buell, one came on the used bike I bought. They had a very informative page about the characteristics etc. of iron vs. stainless. Surprisingly they seemed to feel their product was superior. Imagine that. I can't remember the really what they said, but I do think they look more 'cool'. (IMHO.) |
