Would this be an easy swap? I see on the Buell site the CR has a shorter 2.8 gear vs the 2.5 on the R. Shorter gearing is something I'd like ... but I like the R (esp the with 08 pricing). I'd think this would be an easy 'order the part & replace the stocker' - considering everything seems to be the same on the two models.

Please do a search. This comes up all the time.

Long story short, and this right from a Buell engineers mouth, is you would need to replace the swingarm, sprocket, belt and belt tensioner to change the gearing and keep the correct belt geometry.

The CR swingarm is also only available in black, so it will be mismatched looking on a 08.

Blame the outdated forum technology, topics get lost weekly so the same questions get asked over, and over, and over. Dont feel bad.

Umm what would the forum have anything to do with him not using the search? I see it happen all the time on other forums, not all of them motorcycle related, that people will ask a question asked 2 days before, and was only a few threads down from the top.

The search function works just fine. Most people simply don't use it.

Wow, why is anyone assuming I didn't search??

I did search first, results were messy & dated - just like those provided by Ft bstd, many not even related to the gearing ... but gee thanks.

I guess my fault for not saying that I searched first and explaining why I'm asking...anyway, if anyone has actually done the swap, I'd love to hear from you rather than speculation. I spent some time crawling over the bikes & the swap seems pretty easy, even if the swing arm swap is needed due to the fixed rear axle, seems pretty easy but I guess we need someone to actually have done it for the real story. If you've done it & posted, let me know cause I missed finding it. Thnx!

You happened to attract the ire of the crowd having just answered a question in another thread that referenced the same question 10 posts down.

Sorry for the harshness.

The first thread referenced in my link outlines what parts are required complete with part numbers and prices.

The "how to" is covered in the service manual.

It should be a pretty straight forward swap. Remove wheel. Detach the rear shock from the lower shock mount. Remove the swing arm pivot bolt. Remove the idler pulley. Replace in reverse.

Thus far, I don't believe anyone has done the swap.

Buck up and be the first.

The physical side is straight-forward.
Question to be answered yet, is can/will your dealer put a CR set of maps in your R...
We HAVE made the swap on a race-bike, no problems.
BUT, it has no speedo to correct for, so it has the OEM "R" flash.
