So I got laid off about two weeks ago which in any other situation would suck except for this one. I already had another offer to work somewhere else so my last company almost did me a favor. Here is the thing, I'm moving from New York, NY all the way to San Diego, Cali 1)How should I get my bike out there 2)What needs to be done to my bike so I can register it in Cali (the bike is all stock) 3) any other ideas for moving the rest of my stuff (clothes, tv, etc) I would greatly appreciate that too- Thanks a lot guys | ||

U-Haul can rent you a one-way van or truck and they have bike trailers for rent, too. Just check their web site for all the details. Other option is to ship your bike separately for about $500. CA has really dumb laws concerning registering out of state vehicles. You have to have owned the bike in NY and have a certain number of miles on it in order to register it in CA. I think it was 6,000 or somethnig (I was looking into moving from NY to CA a few months ago). Check the California DMV website. It CAN be done, they just try to make it as hard for you as they can. | ||

XL1200r... There's a difference if you are a resident of CA and buy an out of state bike. That is difficult with all the paperwork, 7,500 miles minimum limit and all that. If you are moving into CA from out of state with a bike or car currently registered in your name, there are no obstacles. If you area an AAA member, you can get the registration done at an AAA office. A lot easier than the CA DMV. Although, you have to go to the DMV for the drivers license test, which I recommend that a person studies for. | ||

Thanks a lot guys. I guess ill be joining AAA and trying that out. I thought about riding out there, would get the miles up to hit the 7500 or so. would be a long trip on the stock seat but we ill see. when I get there, I have to take the driving test all over again? the written and the practical? | ||

No, you can just register your bike. No tests. It's a long ride on a bike. At least 6 days. | ||

Having just done a couple of 300 mile days (to Visalia and back from Riverside), I am here to tell you that you will have a KICK-ASS time. For about 2 hours. Then you're going to wish you had bought that Soft-tail. Plan for plenty of breaks. I'm also going shopping for those Uly pegs with the 1" drop everyone is talking about. | ||

Tampon seat seat? What did you do to it?LOL I actually find the 1125R seat to be quit comfortable. A 300 mile trip has not been an issue. Planning a 1200 mile second week of June. Maybe I will think differently. | ||

I like the stock seat, though. I think it's really comfortable because it's flat and wide. Try a Ducati or an R1 for a few miles and then tell me what you think of that forward tilt after a while and if you think the 1125r seat is still bad! I do 600-mile days on the 1125r several times a year. As far as sportbikes go, it's remarkably comfortable, IMHO. | ||

+++ on the tour seat. I did over 900 miles in 24 hours on Loretta last Summer. Tim(Smoke) has an Iron Butt (1000mi/24hrs) on his first 1125R. Z | ||

Do the ride...you will love it. But I am in the camp of the touring seat also. I went out to California from Minnesota last summer on the stock seat and was hating life halfway through day one of three. I think I hit every rest stop from here to there just to stretch and allow my a$$ to catch up. I bought the touring seat for the ride back and only had to stop for gas. Well worth the investment.   | ||

I just did a 1300 mile trip over 4 1/2 days and yeah, your butt gets a bit sore, but wasn't as bad as I thought it might be... if you stop about every 100-200 miles.....fuel stops...you will do fine I averaged 45mpg for the 1300 miles....I was quite surprised by that  (with touring seat BTW) bob | ||

You guys are alot tougher than me. You have to out of your friggin mind to ride the R across the country. But if you do, good luck and have a great trip. |
