Ye ole speedo/trip meter/clock reset/short thingy.... its doing it again I thought I had it fixed by cleaning the ground points and replacing the battery. But NOOOOO... For what ever reason, every now and then it goes dead and resets itself to 0 on the trip meters and the clock to 1. anybody have this happen and how did you fix it? I have went over the bike shaking the wiring harness, pulled out and re-inserted the fuses and relays. No matter what I try, I can't get it to do it when I'm in the driveway. But, sure enough. The next time I go for a ride and have a "Look at that squirrel!" moment, it will do it again..... | ||

I'm glad I'm not the only one easily distracted by bushy tail rodents. There's a giant squirrel outside of my office window. He's huge and is named Hank, he's a former body building squirrel who goes on roid rages against other squirrels. My 05 XBS did it a few times this year leaving me completely oblivious to the fact that I was almost out of gas. I was able to isolate the wire with a continuity test (none). It was split/pinched and I fixed it. Mine was a wire in the harness to the dash. The only times I have seen that happen is when the battery voltage drops too low. I know you said you got a new battery, but you sure its good? Load test it? Also, does this only happen after like leaving it for a few weeks or something? | ||

Poor battery condition shouldn't affect it while it's running. | ||

It happens when running..... I bumped the front tire against the curb.... did it Popped a wheelie... fixed it looked cross eyed at it while it was running... did it again. Turned it off.... checked my email... went for a 1/4 mile ride... it was working again I don't have a clue.... | ||

Mine was cured by the new battery. Grab your terminals, see if you can make them move. If so, too loose. | ||

I'm assuming you've already checked the bolt length on the terminals? There were a few cases (myself included) where the bolt was too long, and wouldn't clamp down properly on the terminal. Led to some arcing, and gave me the ol' blanked readouts thingy. A thicker washer, and it hasn't happened since. ~SM | ||

it sounds to me like there is a build up of blue smoke in your ecm. you should try drilling a hole in it and let some of it out. if that doesn't work. hit the reset button. it is located in the throttle side control cluster....... | ||

You didn't add any non-H-D-air did you? DUDE!!! I have been running Amsoil air.... I went with the Amsoil air during the first "SERVICE" because everyone knows Amsoil air lasts longer..... MAN!?!?! if this screws up my warranty I'm gonna be PISSED!! Do you think they can pull that info off the ECM?... I have a old can of Harley air from my Road King.... I think I will go put it in and hope for the best... | ||

Do you think they can pull that info off the ECM? After you change the air (bleed all amsoil from tires) to the H-D air, ride for an hour or so, and the amsoil air data will be replaced by the H-D air data, and it's all good. Don't forget to do a TPS reset! | ||

Same problem a few weeks ago....Turned out to be that white plug thing ( for euro models I'm told) behind the fly screen. There was something in there and •••••• everything up. All good now. |
