I removed the tank sticker on my white 02 Lighting (Plastic is white - not a paint) I'm trying to replace it with something else, but I got a horrible outline of where the stock sticker was. It looks brand new in spots and faded around it. Is there any way I can try and blend this? I think I remember reading in the manual NOT to use compound. Any help is appreciated - leaving it as it is lame and I don't want to paint the tank. |

Get a good plastic polish, it worked great on my yellow plastics. |

I have use Kit car polish on the plastic headlights on my cars with great results. It work best when I used a buffer than doing it by hand. |

Damn - I have a whole crate of automotive waxes and compounds that are barely used. I don't want to have to go out and get more stuff to add to the pile. Would a Mother's or Turtlewax hurt the plastic? I know I have a 3 stage Mother's kit at home (compound, wax, sealer gloss) |

Try the mother's. I use the 3 stage kit to buff the car a couple times a year. I think the biggest thing was using the buffer and some sort of polishing compound that worked the best. Couldn't get any difference doing it by hand. |

I actually had some mothers plastic polish. It worked wonders! I applied it by hand |

Several years ago my son was breaking in on my X1, he laid it down tearing up the tank cover in addition to a lot of other stuff. Being on a low budget at the time, I decided to fix the tank plastic. Started wet sanding with 400 grit stepping a grade at a time al the way up to 2000 grit. Then finishing off with plastic scratch remover and plastic polish. I took off all of the stickers and hit those areas with the 2000 grit to blend. I had more time than money. It takes patience and elbow grease. It shines like new and you can't see where the scratches or stickers were. Now he can do the same on his 1125R that he dropped on day one! |

No elbow grease at all. Got rid of the discoloration quickly. Maybe 5 min to clean and polish the tank. Meguiars Mirror Glaze 17 Clear Plastic Cleaner 10 Clear Plastic Polish

You'll still be able to see where the stickers were if you look at it from the wrong angle. Years of washing and polishing the tank cover removes plastic from everywhere except under the sticker. Remove the sticker then the more you polish, the more the raised up area of virgin plastic under the sticker will show. |
