Not sure either, can you elaborate? I wouldn't be able to hear it either over my special ops.

the noise is the pulses bouncing back up thru the intake as the valves open and close.i didnt realize there are 3 sounds going on here, one is exhaust noise ,one is intake noise and then air noise flowing about as we move thru the air.
put ur hand on the airbox cover as you ride and the open the throttle.......
that is a lot of noise!!

If it's not the translucid airbox cover perhaps you could try dyno-mat to dampen the noise. Find it at car audio dealers. You might even find a cheaper variant at your "big-box" stores. Anyway, it's just a thick composite mat with adhesive backing.

Guess I should mention you put it inside the airbox cover. More layers = more sound dampning. It will tend to get a little heavy though.

Outside, inside, whatever...be a trendsetter. Pretty soon you'd see Dynamat wrapped Busa's.

Dude- if that noise bothers you, you definitely need to be wearing ear plugs all the time. The normal wind noise inside a helmet is enough to cause permanent hearing loss. More here: http://www.webbikeworld.com/Earplugs/earplugs.htm

I still have the stock exhaust, so the intake noise is my favorite part of the bike. I love that deep base rumble when the intake is opened up. Maybe that's why my MPG sucks.

I was saying a tankbag might absorb some noise coming from under the airbox cover.

XBGorge... agreed. That's the only regret I have with upgrading exhaust. Can't hear the intake anymore. I think dynomat is going to be your best bet, mainly because I said it and I hate being wrong. HA!!!

Your profile says 03, are you running the stock airbox? I love the fluttering sound I got ever since putting on the open airbox. Also what exhaust, I see a Jardine in your pic, how the hell you hearing the intake over the mofo?

If the rubber snorkel "velocity stack" has been removed that will increase intake noise. Lots of people remove them and cut up the inner airbox for better breathing at the expense of a bit more noise.

I'm guessing that you took the Jardine off, yes? You must have put a stock can back on because the Jardine will take care of any hearing that you might be worried about.

If you got it used maybe the previous owner did some mods, check that out. Threres probably a K&N filter, no snorkel and a Swiss cheesed inner box. All that stuff will make for more noise.

You could try a quiet module in the Jardine. I find I get more intake noise with less back pressure in the muffler.

I can hear my intake over my Jardine noise. It sounds great, but on long rides can get tiresome. I would imagine that any sound deadening material that you could put inside the air box would help quite a bit.

I hear the lower pitch stuff like engine noise just fine. The high pitched screaming type of noise... not so well.

Pogue, if you want 'less loud', spend the extra few bucks and go buy yourself a good electric motor and dump that in your bike.

Only thing is that the Porsche is gonna be like a Jap bike, lots of technology keeps speed up and noise down. Also, some exotics have a valve on the exhaust just like the Buells.
