how many times a year would you say that you go to take off from a light, hear the engine bog and realize that you forgot to put it in first gear. i did that in traffic yesterday and man was i imbarassed |

One time, on my V-Strom, I did that. I started out in 4th gear and actually got it going. The bike refused to downshift (it did that occasionally) and I was on a major thoroughfare, so I had to either take off in 4th or sit there and wait for someone to rear-end me. Man, I can tell you that I'm pretty damn good at modulating a clutch after that happened to me a few times... |

I was doing some off roading on my Uly, somehow I ended up in 5th and couldn't figure out why it seemed down in power when climbing logs. Oh well |

Done that more than once. BUT Da Buell has enough grunt to pull away and go anyway. It's part tractor you know! |

Haven't done that on the Buell yet, but I did do that on my 04 Mean Streak back about 4.5 years ago right in front of a statey when I was still really green. Re-started it, pulled ahead made the left turn through the light I was sitting at, leaned way over and dragged the peg all the way through the turn with a shower of sparks following. He wasted no time pulling me over at that point. Checked my stuff, made a few snide remarks about learning how to ride and let me go. |

You know...if you downshift when you are coming up to the light...nevermind. Haha nice. You sure that doesn't cause engine damage?....J/k} |

...it's a torquey v-twin, does it really matter what gear you're in? I do it most often in the neighborhood as I'm leaving the house or coming home, so 2nd gear worst case...which is not too different than taking off in 1st with the Uly or Firebolt...the Blast has a wee bit more trouble, but even it will take off in 4th gear (don't ask how I know that). |

That does suck but i find those long lights when you forget you put it in neutral are worse. The engine roars and you go nowhere. |

I never put mine in neutral at a light. I'm to nervous about what's going on behind me. Never know when you may have to make a quick move. |

I've done second and third gear starts. Nothing horrible happened, 3rd was a bit tricky though. |
