SE Wisconsin Buellers..... I was thinking we should have a "host" hotel for this event. Kinda like a central meeting place. The major "issues" would include: 1) proximity to Milwaukee, Kenosha & Sauk Prarie? 2) price 3) banquet facility Right now these are the prices I can offer in Lake Geneva for the two resorts I work for: The Abbey Resort - $119 per night Interlaken Resort - $99 per night They're both about 50 minutes from Hal's, 35 minutes from Uke's, 25 minutes from Buell HQ, 25 minutes from Kettle Moraine & 1 hour from Sauk Prarie. I could probably get some parking for a BattleTrax at either of these properties. I know I can swing a $20-25 dinner at The Abbey. Anyone have any input? |

Dyna, Were you there at the BRAG Homecoming when it was at Lake Geneva? I think the average bike speed on hwy-50 between Uke's and LakeLawn was around 90mph. Not that I would know anything about this. |

lol I like the 25$ dinner deal. Is it going to have to be paid in advance and if so how soon? Drag racing sound cool, but I'm not goin cause any time I go to the drag strip I break something; motor mount, battery. (you get the Idea) MikeJ are you talking about rides for the three days or just specific days, or just genral rides from dealer to dealer? Seeing as the best day for dinner will be Thursday, around what time 6pm? And I belive the 03 battle trax schedual is up at www.battletrax.com |

I'm just talking about some route ideas, not "rides" per se. There's some nice roads out in the KettleMoraine area where I used to ride a bit, and a few where they have some bicycle races that are relatively light traffic but have corners and a few minor hills. Could also highlight some maps for up around Holy Hill if people want to go that far north. I think what would/might help is if someone were to pick a radius of sorts in miles from some central location, probably EastTroy. Otherwise I'd just say to pick up a state map and head west of Madison and do a summer version of the SlimeyCrudRun. How did Sauk get into this, and when did Marty leave there? Hadn't heard that one yet. Did he get a new ride and a position to go with it? |

Dyna....It's only 30 miles. At an average speed of 50mph (taking into account the stop lights, towns, etc), it should take 35 minutes. isn't math cool Spidey...I'd probably need payment in advance. I've been burned too many times by people not showing. Then someone is stuck having to pay out of pocket. I'd think payment 1 week in advance would be good. People could still add late if they choose. |

I dont know how everyone else feels bit heres my perception on things. You are free to agree or disagree. #1.There are so many days & with maybe 3 days max you are trying to squeeze a lot more than the average person could possibly do. #2. I like to stay relatively close to base camp. If I have just traveled half way across the country to meet new folks, I dont wanna spend most of my time chasing them at 90mph+ to some far away destination. A long distnace ride does not mean a good ride, I would rather have a short yet fun ride & then sit around over a few beers, sodas whatever & just bench race & bullshit. #3. Saux is a hell of a cruise for people on a limited time budget. #4. Battletrax is a major Blast, but if you intend on really doing anything else that day, forget it. Ask Bomber or Dave, etc. It takes up a major part of the day with setup, teardown, runs, etc. There were a couple I got to at 8am, & didnt get done until close to 4 or 5 pm. If you are willing to sponsor a Battletrax then be aware of the time commitment involved in it. With that & supper your whole day is gone. #5. I like the great lakes Idea. It can be a later event, so those of you who just want to ride around or whatever during the day can do so, then meet up there later on. But I also know it would mostly be a spectator sport. I would definately like to get back out on the track & would do so if this event happens, but for those folks from outta town like Spidey, they have to be concerned about the breakdown aspects. #6. Just thought of something, if we do hold a Battletrax event, lets try & get the sponsoring dealership to actually have quick repair parts in house. A number of guys lowsided last year & took out shifter setups & if it wasnt for the great guys at Hals going outta there way & after hrs to get parts I dont know what woulda happened. Shifter kits, brake levers, clutch levers etc, should be available. #7. Just what exactly is going on at the factory that day? Do we all just ride up, hand Erik the card, sing Happy B-day & then stand there looking at each other? Is Buell gonna have tours for folks? They have done it before while the elves all worked. #8. How many folks are planning on staying for the Harley 100th? I know Buell folks dont always want to be involved with Harleys, but the party on waterstreet in downtown Milwaukee is a pretty good time. |

How about asking admin to pin the basic info on the event to the top of the thread. {Admin... Admin...} so that those of us who havent read the whole thread are aware of what days you're planning on. |

I'm working with Court and Jay Holly to get tours and possibly a tent and some grub out there. I'm guessing we will only stay till 3pm or so then all head off for rides and bull $h!t sessions. Dyna is right (wow did I just say that?) we are trying to pack too much into a short time. I'm sure some one wouldn't mind sacraficing some time to help set up battle trax. We just have to find out what date we are goin to have it on so everone can be at the dinner. I thing just having Hal's and Ukes might be the way to go. This way if people wanna hook up they know where to meet. Thursday should kinda be a Battle trax, self guided tours and dinner day, this gives everyone time to meet greet and have fun. |

There ya go Spidey, much better. You want it to be a fun & relaxing time, not a frantic hairpulling..not that you have that to worry about..time. Fewer events but of a better quality & some good bench racing, bullshitting sessions sounds like a way to go. |

Let's decide on a host location first. I'll work the banquet aspect around our central gathering point. I kinda agree with Dyna on wanting to be centrally located. Staying in Lake Geneva is not exactly central. Trust me, I spend enough time riding into Milwaukee just to ride back toward home (Kettle Moraine rides). Either way, we're back tracking for something. If we decide to "stage" in Milwaukee area, we're going to factory, then rides through Kettle, then back to Milwaukee. It's still 35-40 minutes from Hal's to Uke's. No matter where we stage from (Milwaukee, Kenosha or Lake Geneva) it's probably 25-30 minutes to Great Lakes Dragway. I agree that Sauk is probably too far. It's a full day of riding to go there, cruise around the area & then ride back. Dyna's right on the BattleTrax. It's a full day deal. While the attendance number would probably be lower than normal (because it's a weekday), everyone would just want to make more runs. While we still have 8 months, I'd like to see an firm itinerary by within the next few weeks. If needed, I'll be available for a conference call almost any time this week. I'll be in beautiful Colorado next week Sorry to be so anal but I do this for a living. The more we can get done now, the less stressed we'll be in August. |

It sounds like what started out as a simple event (sign a card from Buell owners and present it to Erik) has turned into a Homecoming event of sorts (rides, hotels, B-Trax, tours, dinners, etc...). Now, there's nothing wrong with that (Bonneville comes to mind), but one should keep some sense of perspective in mind. For me, personally, I might be able to get an afternoon off and put in for a half-day of work, and I can see for those heading in from out of town where they'd like a bigger event, but what is the focus here? Is the signature presentation the primary focus, or has it become a secondary focus? Just curious, not trying to sidestep or slow anyone down. Ride on. |

I will volunteer to plan and organize the staging and registration at Hal's, the Buell rider escorts to the Buell Factory, as well as the routes and guides through the Kettle Moraine after the presentation on the 20th. Spidey-contact me anytime with pertinant information for the types of things you will need for registration etc. jiane@core.com or 414-443-0879. This party is going to rock. |

Of course the Presentation is going to be the first focus. If this is on;y a two day event I'll be happy. Heck a big farewell dinner the second day would even be fine right at Uke's. I like the Battle Trax Idea cause I know everyone likes to do there own thing IE.. I would rather do Battle Trax all day then go on rides through the country and I know others would rather do the oppisite Does any one here have AOL IM cause we all can get into a chat on that or do like Lake said and do a conference call. Blastin I'm gonna mail you here in a few. I'll be working with parts and motorclothes for the rest of the day so this will probally be my last post for a while. |

Thats basically what I was getting at Mike. Personally I can take off as many days as I want & will most likely do so. I wont take off for a ride thru the kettle, I can do that anytime. I wouldnt take off for a ride to Sauk, hell I probably wouldnt take off for any ride. But I would take off for Battletrax & to meet & bullshit with folks. Oh yea Dinner too. Dennis, you wont find a location that will make everyone happy obviously. For those of us in the area its a non issue. I have no problem with riding somewhere an hr for dinner & then riding home. The Hotel/Dinner location should be an attempt to centralize the outta towners. Now thats a hard job when you consider we have.... Battletrax at Ukes Hals & the ride to East troy Pilgrim rd & capitol drive tours for those interested, etc, etc. I would say somewhere near Mitchell airport. That way you are 15 minutes from Hals, 10 minutes from Downtown Milwaukee, 20 minutes from Ukes. There are several hotels in the area, dont know how many rooms would be needed, banquet facilities, etc, but you have conncetions into that part of the world. |

Dyna . . .you're right, but I thought I'd put it out there in case anyone does . . .clearly, this gig has grown, and is designed for both sets of folks, those that traveled, and those that live in the area . .. . . your points have been well taken, for those that live around here . . . . I'm trying to put myself in the shoes of people who have traveled to get here, by definition taking some time off, signed the card, went to East Troy (where we should remember that those folks will be working), and are thinking, "OK, NOW what?" |

Joe Boomer I am pushing for the Battletrax..which is far from a done deal..and some good ole bench racing. I think Ukes would be the best choice for battletrax based on the quality of the lot. Hals is way to small, pilgrim rd....yuck, lets not even mention the horrible track there. I hereby volunteer myself to help with setup & teardown of Battletrax, I also am willing to help Dennis with any work required on his behalf. PS..I will not volunteer to lead any rides thru the Kettle. Too busy with Battletrax & eating dinner. |

Seems there will be two sets of people to consider, local folks and out of towners. I agree with Bomber, don't want them standing around saying "now what?" !! Also, out of towners may appreciate rides through Wisconsin Kettle Morraine etc. since they don't have the opportunity to do so on a regular basis like local folks. Wisonsin does have some good riding roads, and if I traveled to an event somewhere else I'd sure like to ride their roads to see what they have !! CJM |
