So from the rear cylinder exhaust, something is getting past the seal. Its some kind of thick blackish-dark green gunk. Not like sap, but like a grease. maybe 2-3 drops after riding for 30 mins. Took out the spark plugs, and they were sooty but has still been firing, so I cleaned them up. Seems to be running better, but still had gunk come out today. Any ideas? The end of my X1 world? you can see it was dripping on the starter motor casing, top picture is on the O2 sensor. | ||

Are you sure it is coming from the exhaust? I bet you have a bad rocker box gasket. (Leaking from just above the exhaust and running down.) | ||

Just checked it out... dry as a bone all around the whole gasket. I will hopefully have some free time to take the exhaust loose real quick tomorrow and have a peek inside... | ||

I'm w/Tdman on this one. You have an oil leak somewhere in/around the top end. Try removing the gas tank and looking around. Should be easier than the exhaust. Edit: Second thought, if you still have the original crankcase breather system, maybe the breather bolt for the rear head??? (Message edited by akbuell on May 08, 2009) | ||

It's hard to tell in you pic, but where exactly is the oil first being seen? It just seems that the rear header pipe gets to hot for the oil not to burn up. One way to check is to clean/degrease the rear head and rocker box. Then run the motor and squirt baby powder around the suspected area. If it is coming from the exhaust stud area then you might have a cracked head. But I think it's still a rocker gasket leaking. (A very common problem here.) | ||

+1, it's in the top end somewhere. Dripping on the starter like that I would wager a bet it's the left rear rocker. Just my .02. | ||

FYI, use the little flower button on your camera for "Macro" pics, aka really close up. Won't be blurry then. | ||

Thanks guys, I'll have a looksee tomorrow morning. Didnt get a chance today. If I get a chance I'll take some better pictures- with my digital camera instead of my phone haha thanks brinnutz | ||

same thing happend to me it was the small little oring in with the head gasket. the two orings seal the oil return for the top end. they can wear out but not the head gasket so it looks like it is coming from nowere. |
