Heres an update: This whole thing started when I took the bike in for a turn signal and noticed that there was a small dried leak trail from the water pump area. Its been 3 weeks now and they supposedly re-built the water pump, they had to rotate the engine out remove the casings, new seals etc. They call today and tell me that when they started it up it started blowing coolant out the exhaust. They say that they didn't remove the headers and are very confused about why it would be doing this and they are waiting for Buell to call them back about how to proceed. They seem to think that they may have to strip the engine down even further to repair. Then they start telling me about what trade in value they would probably be able to get me on a new 09. I would love a new 09 but the whole reason I bought the 08 used(great deal in August of 08) was so I wouldn't have a monthly payment. Really getting tired of this whole situation, and having one thing after another be an issue with this bike. |

I've had that too for over 5000 miles , hasn't amounted to anything more that dried evidence that shows up from time to time , just keep an eye on it and your coolant level , mine ( knock on wood ) hasn't dropped at all since I got her , and now have 10K + IMO |

that would have worked but now that they have worked on it, its blowing coolant out the exhaust. |

Are they sure that it's coolant, if it's been standing for a while it could just be moisture, that will clear. UK spec bikes are bad for this when cold, probably due to the cat in the exhaust. Have they checked the oil for signs of water contamination ? If it is coolant getting into the engine then it is something a lot more serious - head gaskets maybe ? |

Can only agree with Sportster Mann. How do they know it's coolant and not water as a bye product of combustion? Mine used to spew loads of the stuff out over my rear wheel and make it really wet. |

I haven't been over there, but can only guess that since they are the mechanics, and it is the asst. shop manager working on the bike that they would check those items. I would hope that Buell asks those same questions when talking with the dealer. |

I have to assume that if it blowing coolant out the exhaust, these guys can identify that correctly. Coolant is going to have that green hue, even in a mist, and the steam from it will put that slightly sweet taste in your mouth when you breathe. Coolant in the exhaust can only mean coolant in the combustion chamber, which can only mean leaky head gaskets. How it turned this from a weeping water pump, I have no idea. All depends on how far they tore the engine down.i |

Sportster_mann is correct, my 09 was blowing all sorts of condensates out of the exhaust over the winter here in the UK, so much so that the rear tyre and rear brake had to be treated with real respect until the exhaust had cleared, this is why I fitted a Remus exhaust - shame really this is the only real factory error on an otherwise excellent machine. |

Any exhaust system will spew out moisture on a cold morning. I would assume a tech would be able to tell the difference. If they're starting this thing up in the shop, it's likely not cold enough to spew just normal moisture from the pipe. |

Alright, well they said it was smoking badly and Buell told them to run the bike, so they took it up to 195' and then it finally stopped smoking. Someone at buell on the 1125r team said that they didn't know why it was smoking, but he was going to go over and speak with the engineers. Buell told them to take it out and put it thru the paces on a test ride tomorrow. Meanwhile they offered me $8500 for the bike in trade in towards an 09. I'll tell you that offer is EXTREMELY tempting, what else should I ask for if I take this deal? Thanks in advance for your input. |

Instead of Trade Value ask for the difference price. Thats what matters most. They can slide the other numbers anywhere they want. In this case depending on the fees you could be looking at an additional $4500 plus tax to change model years. |
