ok ive read many of posts on the problem but mines alittle different. It only happens when my girlfriend climbs on the back. then the engine light comes on, the bike dies and smells like its gotten way too much gas. she gets off and bike starts and runs fine, then she gets on and the bike dies. runs like crap in low idle with both us on it but runs good with just me. My x1 jealous? |

my bikes have never complained about the money I've spent on the 'ole lady.
BTW the smell of gas is sometimes caused by the over indulgence of burrito's and lite beer.

 Damn, I wish I had that problem. My girl likes riding on the back of the X1 more than the Duce! She admits that the X1 has better vibes.
Seriously, I would check out the wiring harness under the seat. Check to make sure all the connectors are in good shape and no broken wires. Check the ECM and the back of the fuse box also. There is a ground on the swingarm you should check also. How's the battery wires look? |

Hey guys- I'm the girlfriend. I like riding on the back also. the bikes vibes, i'll admit also are nice. I'm not over weight. I only weigh 135 and i'm 5'7. But really, if i stand on the left side of the bike with him on it, put my left foot on the peg and swing my leg around and sit on the seat the bike dies. And then he had it on its stand and got up and sat on the back seat and it continued to idle like nothing was wrong. I thought it was funny.... but weird. |

Try unplug the BAS,
one other thought: Check the fuse box.

If your check engine light is coming on, jumpering pins 1 and 2 in the data link connector will give you trouble code(s) for the system(s) that are not happy. A possible place to start looking.
That being said, you have an electrical issue. If you have recently worked on/changed something, re-check your work. As others have mentioned, check the fuse box, ECM, ect. |

ok lifted the seat and wiggled the fuse box. Musta been bad connection. Problem solved. seems alot of Buell owners having the same problem. Good luck to all with this problem because it sux.

Glad you found the problem. Perhaps time to do some preventive maintenance on the electrical system? Checking for corrosion at various connectors/plug-ins and some dielectric coating? |
