Took the bike in today to get the front brake line recall done along with fixing a few things another dealer buggered up. While I was there I demoed a CR and got my gear lock. The CR I rode was a July 08 build and had 18 miles on it. The riding position and ergos are almost identical to my R. Wasn't as confident in the handling as my R, but this is probably due to not having the suspense setup and dialed for my weight and preferences. Lower gearing was very noticeable at lower RPM's but I didn't notice much difference above 4K. Front wheel does loft slightly easier, but not a lot. Idling around the parking lot or in stop-n-go traffic there's a lot less need to slip the clutch than with my R. There is almost no wind protection on these things. Even less protection than my XB9S had. Going from an R to a CR is like walking from inside to outside during the middle of a hurricane. The fueling was spot on and engine and throttle response were smooth. Of course now that I have all the latest flashes so is my 08 R. Engine felt tight and noisy. Nothing worse than my 08 was during break-in. I had just forgotten how much these things smooth out after a couple thousand miles. All in all I like my 08 R better. Oh and the sales man commented on how I had run the nubs and chicken strips off of the tires when I brought it back |

if you could feel the power with 18 miles imagine a CR with 1,000+ miles. think of the miles you would get out of that front tire it would never touch the ground! |

I still think the R with CR gearing is the ticket! |

Harlan - I agree 165+ top end is excessive for my needs. The lower gearing and less top end is much more practical for street use. Not to mention the fact the lower gearing is probably better suited for the type of rider and riding I do. That being said, if they sold an R with the lower gearing when I bought mine I would have chose the lower gearing. But since I already own an 1125R it isn't enough of a change for me to lay down the bucks and convert the one I have. Now I just might in the future buy a CR and put an R fairing and lights on it. That would be a reasonably priced conversion. Then I could turn my R into a track only bike. |
