Once installed and married to a VIN it is locked to that VIN and can not be moved to a different vehicle. There may be some secret manufacturer code to unlock it, but if it exists it is not known at this point. |

AFAIK there is no code, no solution. As Bryan says, once married, an IC or ECM will NOT work in ANY other machine. period. Refund the dude his cash, you sold him a pig in a poke. Z |

Can you explain what married to the ECM? |

The ECM and IC both save/contain critical information such as the VIN number mileage etc. If you replace 1 it learns these from the other. Once a new ECM or IC has learned it is "married" and locked to that VIN. For example when I replaced my 08 IC with a new 09 IC. There is a 30 minute count down period that comes up once you install the new IC or ECM. At the end of the count down period, the learning process is complete. At that point the ECM and IC are married and can never be moved to a different vehicle. My old 08 IC has nothing wrong with it. I just replaced it because I wanted the gear indicator that's in the new 09 IC's. My old 08 IC is useless on any other bike. Not sure if I could even reuse it on the same bike. |

Ok what about moving the ECM and IC together? |

Moving the ECM and IC together might work, but then the bike would have the wrong VIN number. In other words if it did work, electronically it would show a different VIN number that what was stamped on the engine and frame. |

Moving both the ecm and cluster will work. Might also be able to replace the ecm with a new one so it will learn the info from the cluster, but the ecm would still have to be programmed at the dealer. |

08 and later, the IC and the ECM have a 30 minute "learning period". This is so techs can swap parts while trouble-shooting without costing the customer an unnecessary part. After the 30 minutes is up, the two parts become one and are useless separately. Maybe there is a way to hack it, I wouldn't trust it. For a track-only bike, do without. Tim(Smoke) says it works fine. Z |

finally sprang for an 09 IC last year to make sure of temps on the track and also for the gas low light. i would have gone aftermarket but the value to me was in the much lower priced oem guage. tim |

What is the retail on one? Am I correct in that the 08 cluster does not have a fuel light or gear indicator?} |

08 has fuel light, no gear indicator. 09 IC also shows software and firmware revs, 08 doesn't. 08 IC lets you see AT and CT while you ride, 09 you get AT and gear OR CT and Volts. That's all I can think of now. Z |

I wonder if the .2 denotes an update as like with standard HD parts (they use letters to denote vevisions).?.! |

i think that even though the p/n i had could be from the 08 catalog, they sent an 09 ic with the gear indicator. the veypor cluster that i was considering was more than 2x the price. tim |

The .1AMA p/n is obsolete, can't be ordered. It has been superseded by Y0500.2AM, $275 MSRP(up from 250 for the old #) and currently Backordered. B/O to clear 05/13/09 Z |

Zac, do you know if the newest version gets rid of the AT mode? I just got the newest version yesterday on my 08 and it has the gear indicator, but nothing below that. It does have the voltage with the CT. |

I'll check tomorrow. We have several 09s on the floor. Mine is an 09 IC, don't remember if there was a date code, but I got it last August. Z |

Fellas - all this talk of the cluster being 'married' to a specific ECM seems to be false. I am 'the guy' who bought the cluster from Vtwinmaniac, I cracked the PIN code (a few well thought out guesses) and plugged it in, started it up and rode away... Thanks for all the discussion though! Nice to see others trying to help! |

That's all I can think of now. Z What if any are the differences between the two fuel light/gauge wise? My 08 has a low fuel light, no gauge. A gauge would be a bonus. What is the latest version of the 09IC using for fuel level/warning?}} The ability to see what flash is in the bike would be nice also. |

T_man - I got my info from the Electrical Diagnostics Manual, BMC-CS and the tech at the dealer I work for, that's been to 1125 school. The IC and ECM both store vital data like your VIN and odometer reading. Seems to me it would pose a problem if the IC and ECM have different info stored. The "marrying" process is where the IC-ECM compare their data and swap what they need. Supposedly, the VIN can only be written once. I suppose as long as it works... There's a lot more going on in there than just the PIN setting. Best o' luck Z |

I ordered an 09 cluster. The gear indicator alone is worth the price. Any fuel gauge/level will be a bonus. |
