I happened to look at my '08 Uly yesterday and noticed that both of my air flow covers were missing. They're the little plastic things go on both sides of the bike to keep (some of) the hot air off my thighs. These things just snap in, but they don't randomly pop off on their own, so that means someone took them off my bike when I wasn't around.

I'm in a fairly small town of about 10,000 people in South Dakota. There's only one other Buell in town, and I think it's a Firebolt. That means I have no idea who took them, and the chances are good that it was just some random guy who doesn't even have a bike to put them on.

I spent $20 to order new ones, which isn't that big of a deal, but it just pisses me off. I hope there's not anything else on my bike that can be removed without tools, but I should probably take a look.

After they come in I'll try to figure out some way to secure them so they can't be removed without taking the seat off. Anyone have any ideas?

I'm thinking that they might have flown off as well.

Maybe it was a fan that didn't like the
fact that you choose Wal-mart as the
only place to buy your new album?

Scratch your initials into them on the inside. Then seal them down with black silicone which also keeps the hot air from blowing around them onto your legs.

Loctite makes a product called "Black Max" it's an industrial type of super glue. Once you put a few drops on anything, it's there for good. You need a "note from the Pope" to get that s@#t off! you can buy it anyplace you can buy loctite products.Works good on grips too, as long as you have 8 hours to get them back off.

fell off? We'd have a hundred posts about it if that was happening. This one smells like an 06 or 07 XB rat.

you could drill tiny holes in them inside and run a safety wire between them. It should slow them down at least.

Would have to be an SS, X, ST, or STT wouldn't it?

Different rear section for the S and R.

I wouldn't glue them down. You will want to remove them at some point for some reason.

I bought a pair for my 06 when they came out. I'd like to "think" they helped with the heat issue, but in reality, that's probably just wishful thinking.

I got one of those custom heat barriers from a sponsor here. I'm hoping it will do a better job than the covers.

As for the a-hole that ripped yours off - the world is full of them. People are the same wherever you go...

Yes Ft they do fit the SS/STT fine. Actually I haven't tried them on with the seat on the SS/STT, but I do not believe that is an issue.

That's what I am saying. The S or R tail section wouldn't allow for the guards to fit, right? They should fit an SS or STT as well.

It would help you narrow down your nabber (if there is one).

I'm pretty sure they didn't fall off, I haven't heard others complain about that, and I don't usually drive anywhere near 140mph...

Although, maybe I was going 80 into a 60mph headwind, that could almost happen here. We had a 130mph wind a couple hours north of here a few months ago. Obviously I wasn't riding during that one though.

I might try a retaining wire or something on the new ones. I don't think I want to glue them, since as was stated previously I may want to remove them at some point. For now I'll just hope my old ones went to a good home, and that whoever snagged them doesn't try to pilfer more pieces of my bike.
