I need to know what you fine people recommend for footwear. I'm not really a boot guy, and this might sound a little, er, fashion-forward, but my jacket is brown so I kinda don't want a black boot. Regardless of the color though, maybe you could tell me what has worked well and I could follow up on links and stop wearing my beat up Goodwill moccasins on the road.... | ||

" beat up Goodwill moccasins on the road"  I dont know the exact reasons you're not a 'boot guy' but try and find a good pair of boots that you are comfortable in that will serve whatever other purpose you need them for. Others may try and sell you on a motorcycle specific boot (like Sidi or Joe Rocket etc.) but if you wont wear them, then whats the point. There are many, many styles of boots to choose from. If you think it doesnt exist, it probably does! I prefer steel toe'd lace up boots. Mine were very comfortable to walk in and saved my foot from being completely crushed when the Jaguar ran over them. I've yet to replace them as my foot still hasnt returned to a normal size. My current boots are the same lace up style, fully covering the ankle, but no steel toe. Buy the best boots you can stand to wear. Sneakers and anything else not covering the ankle are asking for trouble and can turn even the most minor spill into a trip to the hospital. | ||

PS Sorry, no links from me. Do a web search for motorcycle boots and also check places like Cycle Gear, Dennis Kirk, Rider Wearhouse, etc. See what they have to offer and what you might consider wearing. My 2 cents! | ||

I also wear a brown Power Trip leather jacket and wear a pair of Icon standard boots, which is pretty much exactly the same as tan construction boot, except for the little extras thingies(ridges?) on top the left foot for the shifter. You can wear them as regular boots, I don't think many people would notice a difference.  Then, well, I would suggest THE legendary Dr. Martens, the 1460 model comes to mind as the ultimate classic, ultra comfortable that will last you for years. They come in any colors you can think of but also in brown of course. I wear Dr. Martens on a daily basis, in fact you will rarely see me with anything else BUT Docs they are not specifically made for motorcycle riding but I think they would work just fine unless you are planning on going at the track, then they might not be what you would like to wear...LOL There are a gazillion of boots on the market if you just take a little bit of your time to shop around and find what works for you. Last, shop for closeouts and anything you find, double check on eBay see if you can find a better deal | ||

Thanks guys, by "not a boot guy", I just meant that I don't own a pair, and besides the requisite high school Docs, I felt like I was not hip to the latest motorcycle boot technology. You won't like the heel - Try the Red Wing Boot - sorry only available in black, but then you can always stress the leather, most comfortable boot I've worn. EZ | ||

I dont see anything wrong with the heel?! Wore that style for years, but in the taller height. That short style is also available with a side zipper (Harley boots I believe), but I dont know if they come in brown. There are also many different makers of that style. Some cheap, some expensive and with a very wide variety of soles, but the short style is limited. | ||

actually - I've owned the X-Element harness boot - I mean the interior heel gets painful after a few months, I always look for walking/standing comfort long term, the Red Wing can't be beat, except by custom. EZ | ||

I've been told by several riders that the Red Wing boots don't have any side / ankle protection, but I have not seen the boots myself. I ended up buying a pair of Alpinestars Ridge boots. They are not full height boots, and seem pretty comfortable on and off the bike. I just could not pony up the dough for the SIDI's. | ||

Like helmets, all boots are not going to fit/work for all the same. In truth, harness boots (or any kind of regular pull on 'cowboy' boot) isnt going to offer very good protection. Its better than shoes, but certainly not even close to a good set of specialized Sidi boots. "Buy the best boots you can stand to wear." If its too much trouble to put them on or you cant stand the style, then they're not much good when you opt for the comfortable tennis shoes to make that quick trip to the store or even that 3 day ride. FWIW: I wear boots every day and since I have often walked many miles in them, comfort is of maximum importance. Its tough to find a boot that offers maximum comfort and maximum protection. Its usually a compromise. You might find something that works right away or you may go through a few brands/styles before you find something you stick with. | ||

I wear Wolverine all leather steel toed laceups from Wally Werld....cost like 60 bux...nice thick leather on the sides and heel and toe...and they are comfy. | ||

You definitly need ankle protection when you ride. Try some Joe Rocket boots, they have low heels. I stopped in at the Big Kids bike shop last week and sold a pair to someone that just bought a bike. He was wearing sandals on the way in but left with a full face, jacket, gloves and boots. Let me tell you about the girls I helped a couple of Saturdays ago.....sold them full outfits, nothing in pink or any other "girls" colors....they didn't even have a bike yet.... | ||

I had a chance to look at some of the 3/4 length Icon boots at a 'local' Yamaha Superstore. I was surprised at how light they were and have decided to go in that direction. Anymore I don't really care what color they are, but I was so surprised by the weight. The Caterpillar steel toes by contrast, are decidedly heftier. I have started wearing boots, but they are my John Varvatos calf-skins at $375, maybe if I was Brad Pitt and could buy 50 pair I'd keep doing it, but they are not very rugged and the leather is so soft I think the shifter will eventually tear right through them. They look great, just not while thumpin' | ||

I wear Army issue desert boots that I got when I went to Iraq. They did a decent job last time I misplaced my Blast while going down the road. | ||

I used to wear my old set of Corcoran II jump boots. Nothing was more comfortable then my first desert boots but the sides are nylon and offer no protection. Eventually got a pair of sidi way boots, very comfortable (walking or riding) and waterproof. Not really all-day comfortable yet but I'm hoping they break in. | ||

Herman Survivors Swat style boots, I wear them all the time, Does your mother wear Army Boots? No but your dad does! I have some Rocky desert boots that I wear when I have social occations to go to, like meeting the girlfriends parents for the first time, church, or to the office but I don't use them for riding because they don't offer much protection other than the canvas. | ||

I swear by my Icon Super Duty boots - you get them in a construction boot (putty like) color if you don't want the black. The new Super Duty come in a darker, more "boot like" brown. If you want to save some $ on Icon Sandhills Powersports usually has the best prices (beat eBay even). |
