Well, Steve, you jinxed me... I guess once again I am destined to follow in your footsteps! On the way home tonight, I took a different route thru a neighborhood because of traffic. Never been this way before going this direction... Turns out there is a gi-friggin-normus dip in a turn just after an intersection. Maybe a 6-8 inch bowl about 4-6 feet across where the pavement is sinking. I hit it at a pretty good clip, and bottom out the suspension on the evil twin for the first time ever. Well, I might have bottomed it out if the Drummer wasn't in the way. KKKKAAAAAEWEERERunch! I shake off the spinal compression, and do a quick damage assesment. Nothing loose or dragging. Check. No more exhaust noise. Check. O.K. I'm only a few blocks from the house, so I keep rolling. When I get home, I take a look, fearing the worst. What I see is the exhaust tip touching the rear tire. No damage other than the paint scraped off a bit, and the can slid back on the mid pipe. And I mean, I hit this thing hard. No distortion on the can at all. Not really even scraped! Loosened up all the clamps and screws, tapped it back into place with a rubber mallet, tightened everything up, and it's as good as new. F***ing amazing. Most things in the world now are just built marginally enough to make it off the assembly line, and here is something that the phrase "BombProof" doesn't even begin to describe. Thanks again, Kevin! If you folks don't stop abusing your pipes, we're gonna have to send someone from PPS (Pipe Protective Services) out to have a 'chat' with you. Glad to hear everything turned out ok. |
