I just bought a new '08 Uly. I think there may be something wrong with it. I traded my vrod in on it and I have to say that the Uly doesn't come close to it in the power category. Maybe it's just me. I live in buffalo, NY and I would love it if someone with a Uly from the area could take my bike for a ride and tell me what they think. I don't really know what to do. Any advice would be appreciated. |

Thats because it doesn't. The Vrod has a more powerful motor. The Vrod has what, 140hp stock? |

It aint no V-Rod,The XB12X is a Air cooled,Pushrod, V-Twin with Tall suspension,"dirtbike"riding position. The power delivery is soft compared to a V-rod the Buell is linear, where the V-rod has a larger power hit around 5000rpm. If your V-rod had pipes,ac,and tuning software it will be more pronounced. The Buell is good for 130mph,where the V-rod is good for more. This is assuming the one you bought runs correctly. |

Depending on the year and model of VRSC, it was either 115, 120, or 135hp. The Uly is 103. The *entire* Uly also weighs as much as your VRSC powertrain did, will outhandle it any day of the week (unless you had a VRSCR, in which case it'd be pretty close - at least on pavement), and you don't have to worry about a radiator. |

I should probably be quiet until someone else from your area has had a chance to respond, but a few things come to mind that I feel compelled to mention: 1.) Buell's claim of 103 hp is measured at the shaft, not the rear wheel. Most Thunderstorm 1203's make around 85 hp at the rear wheel in stock tune. Your Vrod was probably putting down around 110 hp on the pavement. The Uly's geared differently, too. 2.) Even though it's new, the spark plugs could be fouled or well on their way to being fouled due to numerous startups, rev ups and cold shut downs. I cringe every time I'm visiting the dealership and they do that. How long did the dealer have it before you bought it? 3.) After the initial break in, find a nice long stretch that'll keep you at 3,000+ RPM for at least 5 or 6 miles so that the ECM can reset itself. I demo'd my '06 and, while I still bought it, it coughed and backfired several times during my stress test. I left the dealership wondering if it was tuned right. By the time I rode it 30 min. to get it home, all was well and it ran like a champ. 4.) Often, when the engine's still green, it'll be a little down on power until everything's meshing good. Maybe it's just not broken in yet. Just ride it and enjoy it. The Uly's gearing and purpose are much different than that of a Vrod. Power delivery is nowhere near the same, but each fits its own purpose. Find a nice, twisty road somewhere and let the permagrin take hold. Welcome to the club. |

My 2008 ran crappy at first but the ECM was reflashed and it's nice now. It had a bad dip in power from off idle. I had to use the clutch a lot more than I liked to get it off the line. |

I figured it was just me. I knew the vrod had more power but it was also a lot heavier. I keep reading posts on here where guys are saying their Uly will pull the front wheel up. I just don't feel that mine will do that. I'm gonna check out the spark plugs and see how they look. |

Cryptkicker, I have an 08 XT also. I assumed the front wheel would be off the ground at every launch listening to some Uly owners. It will come up easy, just not "that" easy. What's fun is chopping the throttle at about 40 in 2nd gear and then getting back on it as soon as the front suspension starts to rebound....Be careful two up, the front comes up very easy with a passenger on the back. |

another thing that might help, every bike has its own way that it likes to be run, some i have jumped on and found the sweet spot instantly, my X took me a while. my biggest problem was that i was not high enough in the rpm's at first. the bike pulls like a tractor when its spooled up good. |

So true or false: There is now a reflash for 08's? My dealer says there isn't! |

Your dealer needs to plug your bike in and see if it has the latest. The system will tell them. |

Not an Xprt rider hence sometimes wish front wheel did not come up quite so easily. Tell you what - If you are heading down Twin Tiers way drop me a PM & I will let you touch mine if you let met touch yours, you can see if there is a difference. |

Note that is will also depend greatly on where you live. Here in CO where most of us live at elevations above 5000ft, the front wheel will not come up unless you really want it to. Mine will loft slightly in a shift from first to second and sometimes from second to third, but only when I'm really hammering it. However, at sea-level I hear the engine is much more eager. This summer I'm making a trip to the West Coast and I'm EAGER to find out. |

Yes, it took me a while to figure out how to bring up the front while in the Georgia mountains, but it is effortless when I am near sea level in NY. |

Okc99, there has been an updated ECM flash available for a long time for the '08s. It's possible that your bike already has it, however. |

Cryptkickerxxx- I work at West Herr and will be happy to compare yours to mine , I have a new XT I just rode home from Florida. Its got 2200 miles and is better than when it was unbroken in but even then it was quick. I've ridden a Vrod before and yeah theres a difference but not crazy. Let me know. |

So I rode with a bunch of street bike people yesterday. (Full leathers, talking about the track, but really nice people.) My R6 has a iffy battery, so I showed-up with my Ully. They looked at it and said "you should be able to keep up", meaning we are going to lose him pretty fast. Obviously, this didn't happen. In the twisties I had no problem staying with them, and I was asked to move forward in the group at every stop. They could have waxed my butt if they wanted to on the straights, but why risk a ticket when you are not turning? (Something I like about sportbike riders.) The lesson is the old one: "It is not the size of your tool, but how you use it." |

Got rid of the black rusty thing that hangs under the bike, the bit shaped like a submarine... Replaced it with a HP (Freedom Spirits) Big Oval and the bike then ran better. Had to combine this with changing the headers as the UK is blessed with smaller more restrictive ones...... |

ive owned 2 v-rods and stock, the performance is about the same as an xb, due the weight.... if i remember right, the posted quarter mile times is about the same...the maintainance on the buell is a lot less too...i did my own wrenching and changing shims to set the valves was a pain... you drop one in the motor and its tear down time.. |
