Will S1 handlebars fit an S3T? |

Kinger; the S1 bars are TOO wide, and give you TOO much leverage, leading to an eroneous feeling that your bike is unstable and needs a steering dampener. Go to the S1W/S3 bar. They are lower than the S3T bar, nearly same width, and yes they will fit fine. |

Kinger...I think Don from Uke's has S1 bars on his S3T (but they may be X1/S1W/S3 bars). Try posting for him on the Uke's board in the Storm Fronts section. I can definitely tell you that you CAN'T mount Crossroads race bars with trimming or removing the fairing |

ladies and gentlemen, i have a set of handlebars from my roomies ducati M900 (he put on the woodcraft clip-ons) at my disposal. before i go and start taking things apart, does anyone know, positively, if they'll impact the tank when turned to the stops? from eyeballing it, it looks like they'll fit. just looking for some info to save myself some time. thanks, cj |

I put a set of Duc monster bars on my M2 a couple years ago. There must be several different versions for the M900 because the dealer had 3 different sets, seemed to differ only in the width at the knurled section where the clamps go.I got the set that was the widest and it just barely fit between the Buell clamps. My particular bars did not work with the 5 gal.manta tank,i had to switch to the narrower 4 gal.tank.The electrical switch housings on both sides hit the big tank badly. Maybe you got lucky and have a more forward bend on your bars though. I really like the lower bars, kinda halfway between stock and clip-ons. |

I met a guy at VIR a couple years ago with a SWEET M2 that had Monster bars on it. He had beefed up his fork stops to make them work. It had the turning radius of a Ducati, but the bars seemed to be perfect. |

ladies and gentlemen, with very little sweating and swearing (just what was needed to get the stock grip off the left side with out cutting it) i was able to swap out the stock M2 bars for the ones off the '01 Monster. it brings the grips down to a more aggressive stance without making it uncomfortable. the only drawback is the thickness of the bars means my barend mirrors will need to be modified (or the bars drilled out some) before they will fit again. i really like the way it turned out. i'll try and get a new pic for my profile when i have the mirror thing figured out. happy new year! cj |

Jason, like Buellidan said John must be confused on the seat year thing. The 99 uses that huge wide style seat compared to an S1. Is there a gap at your seat tank junction?I just eyeballed a 98 manta vs. a Y2000 manta + on those 2 particular tanks i could see no difference. If i use them with a 1998 Euro style Buell seat(i don't have an original 96 style to compare)they fit well against the tank. If i use that same seat with a skinny style 4 gal.tank like your original,i get about a 1/2inch gap at the junction. If i use Corbin's S1 seat,it fits against each style tank nicely, because the bottom of the seat has a moveable screwhole plate(plate moves about 1/2 inch forwards or back.)(btw,i,m not saying to spend $300 on the Corbin,it has very hard foam) So i guess what i'm gettin at is i think the 4 vs.5 gal.tanks might have 1/2inch different lengths or the seat lengths changed from 96 to 98 by 1/2 inch at the bolt hole. I can move either tank for+aft a little by moving the rubber cushions glued to the frame.Another thing to try;the tank clamps(the 2 toothed safety plates that were added in Y2000? to keep the tank from coming off in an accident)You might raise or lower the rear of your tank with those. Maybe someone here has already been through it and has a solution + they'll notice all my blathering. |

Heres something you might compare;on my Euro 1998 S1W style seat that fits correctly with the big tanks,i measure from the center of the hold on bolt hole up to roughly where the welded to the frame plate contacts underneath the seat tongue... about 9 to 9+1/4 inches. |

Scratch my last post, the distance between those two points would stay the same, the portion from the tongue forward would be where the different length is.I think John from Buell C.S. is right on the 98 S1W part of his conversation. But what do i know. |

Does anyone know the full specs of the bars for the x1 and the s3t? I mean all specs, like rise, pullback, width, etc? Thinking og getting superbike bars somewhere in between, but need a starting point. |

Bar end mirrors? Which are the best "bang for the buck"? I'm getting my shopping list together for the IMS show. I need some bar end mirrors for the winter project. Thanks for any advice!!! |

LB, The BEST bang for the buck would be to buy a pair of bar end mirrors from a bicycle shop. So long as you don't mind that they're plastic (versus metal). I've used two different types. The "Third Eye" brand (you can see this one at the X-1 files site) is nearly flush against the grip end. I have such a meaty paw that I had to continually adjust my grip a bit in order to view through the mirror. The other brand (whose name I don't recall) comes with 2 stems for you to choose that move the circular mirror out from the grip. One is straight, the other has a 90 deg. bend. This is the one I use now. Either one should cost about $28-32 for a pair. I used the Napolean bar-ends but thought their profile to be too big. The CRG bar-ends are sweet. But they cost a lot. Hope this helps. H-man |

Dueller, A few years ago I had Sargents cover an old Honda 750 seat. They did an excellent job, I think it was around $200 bucks. |

Thinking of trying the clipons above. Made by LSL in germany. What fitment trouble can I expect? That is always a concern... http://www.spieglerusa.com/clipons.htm |

Jmartz: I'm talking to Cycle Cat these days, about borrowing some development clip-ons to judge how they'd work on the S2; clearances, fit, feel and such. If it seems to work, they can apparently custom make a set that will fit 54 mm fork tubes. Check out their web site. Those risers are very nice and quite adjustable. Henrik |

Glad you chimed in Henrik, LSL has chosen to discontinue the 2" rise 54 mm types as in the pic above. The complication here (this does not apply to an S2 if you choose to clipon on top of the upper yoke) is that the pinch bolt area protrudes a distance from the fork tube creating a potential clearance problem. I really thought the LSL's would fit. Another issue is that regular zero rise clipons might hit the frame or tank (or both) on full lock as that is where these items are widest. Also the 2" risen "touring" type bars droop 5 degrees while "race" straight types are usually 10 degrees although 7.5 and 9 can be had from various manufacturers. Have you seen these? |

Jmartz; yes, I have seen the Two Bros clip-ons before, but hadn't considered them for the Buell. Great concept and adjustability. Will the risers clear the fork tube pinch bolts when mounted below the triples on a late model Buell? On the S2, rotating the clamps to have the risers backwards might replicate the stock S2T height and pull-back. Henrik |

I called cycle cat only to discover they do not make a 54 mm unit. They said they would do a custom one. What is the nature of you negociations with them? Check these "old BMW" like bars. Would require (on a pre 97) new straight risers only. The forward motion as they rise might clear the fork adjustments. |

Jmartz; I spoke to one of their technicians yesterday, and he would get a hold of some prototypes (smaller diameter clamps) they had available and send them to me. Then, if it turns out that fit, rise, pullback and clearance works out, they can drill/machine out a 53 mm part to fit the 54 mm forks. Of course, since the prototypes will not fit, I'll have to eyeball it. But it should be possible to determine if it would work. I'm waiting for them to call me back about shipping the prototypes. Those "BMW" bars would not work on an S2 - no center handlebar clamp... Clip-ons only. Henrik |

A minor aggravation in the grand scheme of things. Mr. Ortner tells me Cyclecat provides an upper triple clamp for Duc Monsters for the same pinch bolt clearance problem. How much are these items anyway? I have found no price list. |
