Anyone attempted this? Successful? Not? How did you handle the speedo issue? Noticeable difference in acceleration? |

Not sure if you've read this, but changing the gearing requires changing the rear pulley, swingarm, belt and tensioner. I'm not aware of anyone who has done it yet. It seems to me if you want change the gearing, a chain conversion might be a more economical solution. |

Didn't really think of a chain that as I have come to really like the ease of the belt, however it is of course an option. The cost of the parts to do the CR gearing btw $600 and $700. Considering that there are exhausts that cost significantly more, it seems like a reasonable number IF makes an appreciable difference in pickup. |

Funny, the person most obsessed with the top end numbers of this bike now wants to give up the top end for bottom end. |

Funny, the person most obsessed with the top end numbers of this bike now wants to give up the top end for bottom end. Uh come again please? If you are referring to the Drummer fiasco, i was after quantifiable and reasonably correct data--not obsessed with top end numbers. You misinterpreted things. Instead, some "impartial" people posted the best case Drummer vs. the worst case stocker runs along with a the myriad of additional meaningless junk. Still to this day only a handful of dyno plots have been posted and only one person has done an acceptable back to back with the stocker and Drummer. I think that was you. Anyway, are you trying to say HP is only good for top speed? Cause that's the only thing one sacrifices with the lower gearing. |

i think cr gearing is a much better idea. cost half the price as chain, but the extra cost of the chain gives u lots of options for gearing. but not needing it for the track a 9% drop would be really significant. maybe speed healer has what ud need for speed adjustment |

I know this is highly dependent on the particulars of the track layout, but I have never got past 150 on the tracks in my general area. I believe the top speed of the CR is in the 150s? At least at the tracks I frequent, not much if anything is lost for top speed and you are certainly gaining a acceleration that can be used at every corner. Good tradeoff for me personally. |

fab up a adjustable belt tensioner and run different cogs front or rear and maybe a few different belts |

I think just buying the CR parts is the way to go....and it's just about the cash and installation. The two things that are bothering most are painting the swingarm diamond blue and fixing the speedo error. Will the gear indicator work appropriately? Seems to me that the GI works by comparing MPH and RPM--so I fix MPH, but RPM will still be different with the CR sprocket. |

Fresno - The speedo and gear indicator are all calculated by the ECM and cluster based on inputs from the tach and speed sensor. I would bet you could get your dealer to install a CR flash and all would be well. Except, you would be forced to use an '09 flash on an '08 bike, which has proven not to work well. If the Cluster is actually different between the two models (i doubt it), then you would only need a new one of those. |

I test rode a CR today. The lower gearing didn't make as much of a difference as I thought it would. From my observation the difference wouldn't justify the cost and hassles. |

I dunno. It sure FELT like the CR had a LOT more grunt coming out of the turns than my R when I rode them both on the track last year. As for everyday street riding, I don't think the difference would be GREATLY noticeable. On the track however, I think most riders would notice a significant difference. Just my $0.02 and YMMV. |

It sure FELT like the CR had a LOT more grunt coming out of the turns than my R when I rode them both on the track last year. You are probably a lot more qualified to have an opinion on that that I am. I'm not that aggressive of a rider and only done a couple of track days. Now that I've discredited my opinion, I have to say I just can't see it making a huge difference on the track. At high RPM's my 08R pulls just as well as the CR I rode. On the track I keep the RPM's up. If there was I big difference, I'd just choose the next lower gear on the R. I can see the CR being my preference if I did a lot of city driving. Low RPM's is where I noticed a difference, not high reving like I do on the track. |
