This would be another yes vote. lol... What's even more fun is when you've still got half a tank and it tries to cut out because of the fuel vent line... Nothing beats lanesplitting at 60 while manually venting the tank! |

I use the trip odometer and switch over to reserve at 110 miles as it usually needs to be switched at 115 to 130 miles depending on how hard I ride. That way there are no suprises. Only use regular odometer for seeing how long before next oil change. |

One hour, or 80 miles is the rule for refuel! Tonight it was 55 miles cause it got so cold after the sun went down, here in Central Michigan that the Big Kids legs started to go numb! |

I was riding yesterday and the engine cut out. I switched to reserve and she started right back up. I was close to needing fuel. But when I looked in the tank I still had fuel visible and sloshing around. I have 225 miles on the bike and had only gassed up once. Is the reserve still in the tank where the fuel is visible? What is " manually venting" the tank? Taking the cap off? Does the fuel flow become restricted when the fuel gets to the last quarter of a tank? ( I put in 1.9 gallons and left some room at the top of the tank for expansion so I suppose then that I had maybe close to a gallon of gas. ) Tis all sounds more or less normal but are there some tricks that will help? Thanks |

Manually venting is just popping the cap off and on. That .7 gal.left after the 2 is the reserve - lol GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

My son has poor gas mileage, 35 mpg, from a Blast that otherwise runs great. We had a blocked California charcoal canister. That caused the bike do die every mile or so. We removed the Canister and left the fuel vent line open were it was connected to the canister. That stopped the frequent dieing. Other details: the carburetor boot was recently changed. It has Vance & Hines muffler. The carburetor was rejetted, by a shop that specializes in Buells. I do not remember what jets sizes they used. The bike is a 2002 with only 4000 miles. It burns through 2 gallons of gas in about 70 miles and then runs fine again when switch to reserve. The bike runs beautiful except for the gas mileage, any thoughts? Thanks |

Well if it was rejetted too rich that might be an answer to your question. Have you checked the plug? I am not familiar with the charcoal canister all I know is the non-Cali models. I am assuming it vents the carb and tank to the canister then there is a vacuum line from the canister to the vacuum port on the carb? Also, how hard is your son riding it? I know when the Big Kid rode his it would get about that, maybe a little better mileage but not much. If it is on the rev limiter all the time that could be a reason. |

First, you need to know what jet sizes were used. "a shop that specializes in Buells" is somewhat meaningless when it comes to the Blast (lets just say I'm skeptical-the unknowing assume a Blast is just the same as a twin, its not). Did it ever get good gas mileage? If the mileage went down after the exhaust install and jetting, there's your problem. Did they plug the enrichener/TPS back in when they rejetted the carb (assuming they pulled the carb off, which isnt really necessary). If they didnt plug it back in, after the bike is warm it will 'lope' at idle like a twin because the choke is still on. The tank line is vented, but is the carb line plugged (or capped at the carb)? Start there-jetting, carb plug. |
