Pretty fun bike! Traded a Triumph Daytona for it and I'm happy with the deal. Reminds me of my old Ducati Monster but with more weight. Anything I should be looking at right away? I found the oil dipstick with a little looking! I know nothing about belt driven bikes at all... |

How many miles? Did you get service records from the previous owner? Post a pic and we can prolly tell you a bit about your bike. Profile says you got a black one, those were the most reliable and fastest but here's a few things to be aware of: Don't overfill the oil res, check it when the motor is warm has just been shut down, or even while running. OEM paper rocker box gaskets can be problem, if they've not been done yet you'll be doing them at some point. Get a factory service manual, they are awesome and if you are mechanically inclined at all you'll be fine. The parts book is great too, not just for pn's but the exploded views can help when you're tearing into the bike. That's prolly a good start, plus others will chime in |

It's got 40,000 miles. Been down and it has some rash. Some parts are missing, plastic mostly. I service manual is a good idea. Where can they be had? No records, just a bike and a key and a title... Hum, seems the picture isn't going to post, I'll work on that. |

congrats on the bike. your profile says 01 and this says 02. if it is an 02, most of the bugs had been worked out, out side of the speed sensor but with that many miles on it, you should be good. there's a lot of smart people on here who like to wrench and have no problem helping out with something if you need it. enjoy the bike and welcome to the badness. |

Ya, about the year, the papers claim it to be an 01. Guess the 02 was just some talk. I plan to wench on it myself and I don't know much about these motors. I'm sure I'll be asking for help soon enough. I sure do like twin power! |

The 2000 to 2001 yes but I haven't seen much between 2001 to 2002. |

I found a service manual on the internet for $60.00. About what I expected. Anyone know of a cheaper source? What is the compression ratio on this motor? I generally pump hi test gas into my bikes but a would still like to know if I have to... |

The service manual says: Use a good quality unleaded gasoline ( 91 pump octane or higher) Way to go on your bike...I love mine have an 01 M2L Oh Yeah...The Compression ratio is 10:1 and 60 bucks is about the best price Ive seen for a service manual. Yes and the bike is an inch lower to the ground then a regular M2 I think the frame might be shorter to. I hear the seat is thinner Now that I look at my 60 dollar service manual, I see the seat height on the M2 is 29.5 to the M2L's 27.5 Ground clearance is 5.2 on the M2 and 4.2 on the M2L Oh Yeah..The 60 bucks is worth every penny. I recommend getting a service manual if you plan on keeping the bike any length of time... Check with any of the sponsors here. You can get a 10% discount from some on the manual and that should allow you to buy the proper manual at less than $60. It's a great bike and I bet you enjoy it. |

Ya, I do. Put a few miles on it today. It clunks and grinds andrumbles. Just the kind of bike I was looking for. Such a change from those in line fours, and even the air head I have Thank you all for your help and good wishes. This is gonna be a fun summer! |
