Hey guys, I understand that there was a solenoid in the 08 1125's that should be removed to help the engine run better. Is this true for the 09's as well? Mine has 2400 mi. and runs fine with no issues, should I yank the solenoid?

If you have no issues, don't fix it.

If you experience issues like the the failure to accelerate in 3rd gear b/t 4300 and 5200 rpm at WFO then, you might want to do something. If this issue pops up, then do a search for e'noid and you will see a solution.

Yes. Get the $6 plug. The failure to accelerate in 3rd can be dangerous. The solenoid also weighs 2lbs! Don't run into a problem then repair. Be proactive.

Does that void your warranty by doing this? The resistor is a buell part

i'll get the buell resistor, unfortunately I have to buy it in nederland, cause my dealer says he can't order it.
But you have another choice: you can simply disconnect the solenoid cable from the injector's linkages.

Regarding the above posts, my solenoid has been disconnected for most of the 7800 kilometres I've travelled, with the resistor plug in place of course. I've NEVER had an error code relating to it (the only error code received in all those kms has been 'system voltage', when the charging system failed; still not repaired after 4 weeks at dealer).

Redscuell, you can force the code consistently if you whack the throttle at the right RPM range. If you haven't seen one, you've just been not meeting the narrow parameters that will cause it.

Can't remember exactly, but I think it was only activated when cruising between like 4700-5000 RPM and then going WOT.

If you are cruising in 3rd and then nail it, like to pass a car or something, you will get the code. The RPM range that triggers it, is 4000-5000. It happens to me all the time on the freeway here in NY. It is the primary reason I had to get rid of the solenoid in the first place. With the solenoid in place, instead of getting a light, I would almost get killed when the bike would just about drop dead when I expected it to haul ace.

I do understand that there are parameters that must be met for the code to appear; and I know what they are roughly. The feedback that I'm giving is that I've never experienced (a) the code or b) the power loss in thousands of kilometres of real-world commuter riding of 2 hours per day, city/highway riding.

I thought I'll get an error code only if I disconnect the solenoid from the ECM without plugging the Buell resistor!

The computer knows if the throttle plates don't close when they should, (TPS) so I've heard.
My noid has been removed for some time now. I'm using the Buell resistor and I've never had even one code over it. All in the way you ride I guess.
Maybe I'm just not in third enough!

If you just disconnect the plug from the solenoid you will get an error code (CEL). If you use the resistor that was mentioned above, it will keep you from getting that particular error code/ CEL.

If you have either used the resistor or disconnected the mechanical linkage/ cable from the solenoid and: 1) You are in 3rd gear 2) you are riding b/t 4300 and 5200 rpm and 3) You aggressively open the throttle, you will still get a CEL (this CEL will be reset the next time you shut down your bike).

My cable is disconnected and I can readily get a CEL following the 3 steps above but, that's all I get. As best as I know, the only way to eliminate the CEL in this scenario is to have the race ECM.

Hey guys, I removed the solenoid cable last nite on my 09. No error codes on the test ride and I hammered it everywhere between 3500 and 6500 rpm. This was done in 3rd through 5th gears. Possibly the 09's are different from the 08's in this regard or maybe I just got lucky. Anyways thanks everyone for your input.

I am curious if any of the 09' Owners can get the failure to accelerate to happen before they disconnect the solenoid? As mentioned above:

1) You are in 3rd gear
2) you are riding b/t 4300 and 5200 rpm and
3) You aggressively open the throttle, you will still get a CEL (this CEL will be reset the next time you shut down your bike).

Can anybody explain the reason Buell designed the throttle control with this solenoid and linkages. Was it to pass certain emissions tests or to up the manufacturer's mileage cert?

It can't be that Buell wanted the 1125's to have a potentially dangerous performance envelope. I mean, look at all the places in the owner's and service manuals where it warns that doing X or Y may result in physical harm or death. Does it say anywhere to refrain from WOT in 3rd gear between 4 & 5k rpms?

i have an 09 CR with around 1500 miles on it and i frequently get failure to accelerate in 3rd gear between 3000-5000 rpm, its very annoiying and dangerous, im gonna have to try to remove that solenoid for safety reasons, hope its not the same for all 09's. should i try to get the dealership to reflash it first?

You don't need a reflash or the noid plug. just disconnect solenoid and ignore error until you can't remove the full solenoid, tie the throttle bodies and attach the plug.

I have a moded 1125CR, November model and have not gotten the failure to accelerate yet
..and i ride hard...but in higher gears..but I also have the Jardine exhaust with Pro-tune 3 card...so maybe it bypasses it..i have explained this to Jardine and Dobeck performance to see what they find when I bring the bike again for dyno/calibration,etc. Thanks.

I have an early 09 (06.08 build date), CR with the (latest?) 12Z mapping. Currently has a little over 1500 miles on it.

While I did not get any failure codes, before I disconnected the cable from the T.B. There was a couple of times that the bike stopped accelerating at about 80mph.
Wasn't paying attention to the tach...too much freeway traffic. As someone above said..dangerous.

I removed the cable from the throttle body, acceleration problem is gone and as of yet, NO failure codes either.

The resistor/plug is on order and should be here the end of this week. The solenoid will be coming off as soon as I get it in my hot little hands.

Sparky - Rumor Alert!
Rumor has it that the noid is there to pass the sound test. Rumor also has it that Buell is not or soon will not be the only company to use this system.

On the XB12s they used the muffler valve for the same thing and got to improve power too.

I disconnected and removed the solenoid on my 09 1125R and fitted the Buell resistor.

Bike seems to be a little bit smoother but this may just be wishful thinking.

I was not going to take the risk of the third gear WFO problem.

Error codes will only be posted on denoided bikes if the conditions exist that would cause the solenoid to operate and the expected TPS value is not found I believe.

John - for the buzzing - put some lead shot in a plastic bag and stick them in the bars.
I put about 130 gms of #8 bird-shot in 3-mil ziplocks in each bar.
Buzz gone, works like a dead-blow hammer to absorb shock.

My 'noid is still connected, but I removed the cable and zip-tied the throttle cams.
I've seen the error code twice in 17.5k miles.
I don't hit the range often, but once is too much...

Why run around at 6k when you can cruise at 3k just fine?
