So I just went on my first lengthy ride since changing over to the Syn3 in my 12R.

Previously on Dino oil I have had the typical gas mileage of other 08 owners. 38-42mpg or so. After 145 miles today I put in 3.2 gallons for a whopping total of 45.3 mpg. Best single tank ever, I haven't ever got better than 42, and thats rare.

Number wise it doesn't look huge. But hell thats a 10% improvement on average. This was with pretty hard riding, quite a bit of triple digits and just plain cruising at 80+. Some wheelys, rolling on the gas really hard coming out of corners, keeping it revved. So I'm thinking I could get more out of it on an easy ride.

This was with the syn 3 20/50 in both the engine and primary.

This could just be the engine breaking in, no?

Augustus, I don't think so, I switched to the Syn3 at 7800 miles. This was my first full tank since that change. I am currently a couple ticks over 8k.

Redbuell, I'll definately be looking at other brands, just got the SE stuff cause I was there. Hell compared to the normal HD oil, and the Screamin Eagle Oil, the total difference was $5.00. Hopefully with non HD branded oil I can cut the $60 full oil change down to about $30.

So while on the topic of Synthetic oils, whos running what?

What ever you run as oil, its a good idea to use Formula+ in the primary.

Ekass, I'm already thinking of switching back to the Formula+ in the primary, I'm not digging how its shifting with the Syn3.

yea good idea, there seems to be a corrosion issues with the starter if using something other then F+

Oh FYI don't over tighten the primary cover, just snug is all you need. Don't ask me how I know...

I run Royal Purple in both holes, as I have in all my bikes. I especially like it in the primary- the shifts are noticeably smoother with it, and no more false neutrals.

Good to know Andy, I was missing 1-2 about half the time yesterday on my ride.

Yeah I was getting some of that (mostly because on my Metric bikes I could get by with a light tap up and the trans would kinda of suck it up the rest of the way- I wasn't used to pushing it up all the way!), as well as false neutrals between 3-4 and 4-5 every once in a while.

The 1-2 problem is alleviated greatly now, and the 3-4 and 4-5 problems are non-existent.

Never had false neutrals in 3-4 or 4-5, but will watch for it.

I'm running amsoil 20w50 in both holes and i saw an improvement over whatever was in it before. Had to have to been HD oil of some sort since it was the first primary oil change i've done to the bike.

Best tank ever is 52.7mpg in my 9r. That was running amsoil all the way...and running it on very aggressive roads at very aggressive speeds... kinda the opposite of what i'd expected.

That's what it's designed for. Amsoil is a top-tier synthetic and one of the easiest, least expensive performance mods you can do to your Buell- your bike will thank you.

What is funny is here in California at Glendale Harley in L.A. they have Amsoil on the floor with its own advertising section. Hint Hint! I thought Amsoil would be the same performance as the Mobil 1. Well its better and more efficient. My bike absolutely loves it. A little more power, runs smoother 3 to 5 more miles a gallon. I use wix filters. I was getting 43 to 45 now getting 45 to 48 mpg, sometimes 50. Riding the same way as with any oil 80 to 90 cruise speeds. 150 miles a day to and from work. I bet if I bring my cruise speeds down to 70 to 75 I would get over 50 easy. I've tested the Mobil 1 20 50, 15 50 and Diesel oil. How I test the power and smoothness is cruising at 80 and then doing a top gear roll on. The Amsoil seem to pull better to 90 on to 100. Wacking open the throttle with the other oils the bike ran rough and took longer to get to those speeds. I am a believer in Ams.

I would still use Mobil 1 15 50 or 20 50 in a pinch. I shouldnt have to I got a distributor right by my house. Google maps is a good tool to use. Just punch in "Amsoil Dealer your city and State" If there is any dealers they will pop up.
